Best Retro Handheld

Is GarlicOS still a thing for RG35XX / Pro? That's incredible. Boot time around 7 or 8 seconds and the OS just works. You do have to sort your own box art though as it was before the times of having Wifi / network access.
It doesn't work on the 2024+ ones from what I read which is why I ended up going for modded stock.

I have tried both MUOS and Knulli on my RG CUBE XX and Knulli is my favourite. It does everything MUOS can do as far as I can tell and looks better doing it. It also has a built in scraper and boots up pretty fast too.

My experience with muOS is that I prefer the Banana version over the latest goose version. Boots in ~8s and works well for playing games. Whereas goose was taking 30s to boot sometimes.

Y’all see the new news? Glad I waited I might still get a rp5 or rp mini v2 if I get get a nice sale price. But the new ones are pretty sick. I don’t know how to post pics but I’m sure yall have seen them. Rp6 and RpG2

Quite tempted by this. In purple it looks fantastic.

I guess it’s too early for anyone to have received theirs? I was curious if you had been hit with any additional fees.

It’s not a cheap device, but damn it does look incredibly cool.

So my Anbernic 476H arrived today. The non-android devices are definitely simpler to use. I have my SD card prepped with PS and PSP games, my plan was to use the internal storage for the rest of my games but it does not appear as a drive in Windows. Can I copy directly to it? Do I have to copy to SD and then internal? Or can I not use internal at all in which case I need a bigger SD card. I'm seeing conflicting information from a search but nothing says how to get ROMs onto internal.

If you want to connect it and have it appear in Windows/other OS, just connect it and choose file transfer mode on the device. Mine apepars now as 'Retroid Pocket Classic' and I can see my 128GB internal storage and 512GB SD card.

Why use internal storage? Keep roms and bios on the SD card, internal storage for apps and Winlator (which if you're like me is the majority of internal storage!)
You can copy directly on the device from SD card to internal storage using the Files app or another app.

I was going to use it as my 128gb SD card was full and there is over 100gb spare on the internal. A 256gb card is only 18 quid though so might just end up buying one of them. I can see the device in explorer but it is empty.

Try connecting with file transfer and look in connected devices on 'USB' make sure it shows 'This device' and 'File transfer' on your handheld.
In Windows mine appears as a mobile phone in explorer.
I can see all the usual folders but Windows isnt smart enough to see the majority of the used space as for me this is within Android, inside Winlator. It'll be system/android data which is probably a type of Linux filesystem underneath which Windows cant see. Ironically most of the used space for me (40GB) is Windows files, but inside a container in Winlator:)

I disconnected rebooted and connected again, after picking file transfer (sure I did this before) I can now see the SD card and internal storage. I can't create any folders on the internal storage though. Have bought a 256GB card now which should hold everything I need.

Think I need to have a bit of a read up on on this one as was expecting it to be similar to the RG35XX.

Will this play ps2 games? have recently got the rg 40xxh which im loving for ps1 and below, also some dreamcast, would like to play some ps2 though.

If not, can anyone recommend a half decent device for ps2 which wont break the bank and has decent sticks, the sticks are the only thing i dont like on my device.

Thanks

It is listed as being able to but I'm not sure how capable it is.

These look super cool, new to me! The dual screen set up would be amazing on some older games, I'm thinking stuff like Zelda or Mario Kart for maps - if only that was possible

I highly recommend this for £30, even better then Sandisk Ultra and Extreme cards ive had in the past for reliability of sustained write speeds.

Yeh, probably best to know what you're buying before spending money on things :D Most of the time I do a bit of research if im buying tech so I know something about it instead of going in blind.
My first Android device though it was a bit of a learning curve compared to Windows / iOS - same with a Steam deck and generally Linux / Unix compared to Windows.

Already ordered now but will keep in mind for next time. I'm usually pretty anal about checking things out but for some reason just assumed it was the same O/S style as the Linux based one but faster.

Anything classed as must do's for it? Are all the pre-installed emulators fine to use? Any better font ends to use?

Android devices are totally different to linux based ones.
Dont use the pre-installed emulators, set it up yourself with Retroarch and proper apps :)

Here's my go to video for android setup, I must have watched it at least 5 times now! Frontend, I personally use Daijisho
