Best TV package that doesn't require a license?

Sure, but he does say "on-demand" which in my mind implies catch-up. So you were trying to make a point that is irrelevent.
point is kind of irrelevant - obviously he is happy to watch it without a license else he wouldn't have made the thread... if lots of people decide they can't be bothered with live TV then the BBC will need to change its funding model, until then the choice is available to anyone. If the govt/BBC want to change things so that iplayer is only available to license players then that is up to them too.

BBC content whether live or on demand has to be paid for, if he's not paying £150/yr for it then majority of those that do think its reasonable enough value compared to for example Sky content or PPV have to pay proportionally more.
If there's a problem with that, then the BBC should enforce the licence for on demand content.
FYI The BBC Charter is up for renewal in 2016 so you may well find TV Licensing is enforced for on-demand content. I wouldn't be surprised if it is, on-demand is expected to be at parity with live consumption by 2020 and considering the charter runs for 10 years they'd be silly to overlook it.

That'll never fly. There's no way i'm paying the BBC or for a license to watch shows through netflix or similar. They can't impose a tv license on things that aren't run, produced or aired by themselves. Applying the TV license to bbc content through the iplayer i can see happening, but not on demand content in general in the same way they won't let you watch film four etc without paying the tv license.

So, if he is watching ITV content or Channel 4/5 content, your point is irrelevant again, as they see zip of that money.
I am just surprised at what people are happy to pay for, when they are not legally or otherwise obliged to do so.

From what I last heard it doesn't matter if you watch the content but if you own a device capable of recieving any form of televised media PC, TV, Mobile, Tablet or otherwise you are now obliged to pay the TV licence.

What do you want? There's a load of options with most doing some or all. Smart TVs, a plethora of set top boxes, etc.
List what services you want (iPlayer, 4OD, Netflix, Prime, etc) and then look at your options that cover them all.

Completely untrue. You need to actively be using it to watch content, just owning something that may be capable of it doesn't mean you need to start paying.
That's not true any more, as any internet connected device is capable of receiving live broadcast TV. It's now down to simply whether you watch live TV, rather than just owning something capable of.
I did mean iPlayer only. I guess it could extend to ITV/4/5 catchup aswell as they are PSB's and do get a cut of the TV License albeit a much smaller one.
