BEST UNREAL???

The first UT hands down for me i must have put in more time on that game then anyother game i ever owned, Glide tech was amazing back then, I played it so much i didn't go out of the house for 3 months atleast. EPIC.

Unreal 2 is one of the most underrated games ever. Each level was amazing and completely different from the previous one, and the last level was just sublime

Unreal Tournament gets my vote. Best fun I had with a shooter online. It had an atmosphere that really got me. I just couldn't get into the later ones. And other shooters either for that matter. Have moved away from the genre now.

I open up the 12-year-old Unreal Tournament and I just realise that it all stemmed from this, this was the ground breaker that so many games today are built on, from or otherwise have taken inspiration from in some way.

Leave it out, UT was hardly groundbreaking compared to stuff like Quake (the first true 3d FPS, that also gave us stuff like ingame console, tcp/ip multiplayer, clans etc etc) :) Certainly more of an evolution than revolution.

Personally I'd say Unreal is the best.

Unreal was ground breaking at the time, glide was ace

But overall I guess ut99 was the most popular and I enjoyed ut2003 after that it went down hill with the adding of vehicles it's pretty much what happened to cod series the adding of the extra crap ie kill streaks unlocks and the what not that spoiled that for me

I guess I am a fragging purist and nothing beats quake dm experience

Unreal Tournament was by far the best. Great community, loads of leagues/competitions. The golden age of fps for me!

CTF was brilliant, really good maps.

Yeah tho I have a healthy respect for what they did with Unreal and Unreal Tournament (not a fan of the later ones) - it was the id shooters that cut the cloth and everything else followed or improved on that pattern.

The ambience they managed with the Unreal SP and UT MP was sublime tho and IMO not really matched before or since, got fond memories of Bluff Eversmoking and the Sunspire and playing assault on overlord til 4am on release day of UT99.

Only played UT2004 but I really enjoyed it when it was in its prime. Onslaught mode was the best.

Tried to play it again when my computer couldn't play anything else but it's virtually dead with only a handful of servers filled with idiots who play the same maps over.

A bit exaggerated, even if it is down to two hundred or so servers. Then again, with the sheer number of multiplayer shooters being released each year, it's to be expected. The original's faring somewhat better (more variety in the servers and more players).

There were servers but no good servers. For me there weren't many under <100ms with players in and the ones that had people in where all 'replay the same map over and over' ones. The players were mostly your typical hardcore who've played it for years meaning no fun to get back into. I was hoping to play some of the maps I enjoyed back then but no one plays them anymore.

It's probably been too long for me since I last played. I still remember when the ECE pack got released. Don't think I'll play it again which is a shame but all good things have to come to an end. :(
