I'm wanting to venture into the world of having a video doorbell and wondered if there were any realistic alternatives to the almighty Ring system that I should be looking at?

It needs to be battery powered as I'm far too lazy to work out how to wire it in but at the same time I don't particularly want to be saddled with a monthly sub!

Also, if Ring is the way to go, what's the difference between the various versions?

Gadgit show of all places found the EUFY better but only really due to not needing to subscribe. I chose a Ring and have subscribed, personally pleased with the chocie, picked it as we needed a door solution that would alert the outside office when somebody rang. We tried a couple of double ringer type solutions but they often didn't work so got a ring and moved an alexa out to the office and it all works perfectly now.
We can see our kids come and go, we know when a parcel has arrived and if we get a door bell push we are out there before they leave, the warning is perfect before the actual push. The little snapshot that appears on our apple watches is also really good as well as the way you can share it with other members of the household.

Like I say, i didn't try the others but I can only say that the ring is very good at what it does.

Ring is great but I didn’t like the idea that I didn’t have control of my recordings so I went with a unifi doorbell to replace my ring.

I have Ring doorbell too and it was great for a month but then you have to pay a sub every month or no recordings.
The Blink wireless doorbell looks better as you can just plug a usb stick into the hub to save recordings.

We have a ring doorbell which works fine and I can't say I notice the impact of the £3 per month or however much it costs.

My top tip is to buy a video doorbell which also has a separate chime which you can put somewhere in the house where it'll be heard, such as the hallway.
