best way to partition raid 0

see my understanding is the fastest read/right/seek of any hard drive is the outside of the platter.
The hard drives have a fixed speed. And read like a turntable from outside in.
Where as CD/DVDs read from inside to the outside of the platter but to keep the quality the same over the entire disk they are variable speed.
So to get the best out of my win7 64bt and programmes i have all ways partitioned my operating hard drives to around 15-20% . There fore using the outside of the disc for best performance.
And as this is my first time using raid i needed to know when to partition my raid 0.

Could any one recommend a good raid card?

Found some good hard ware ones for £60 3ware 4port sata.
I thought about ssd but its still new tech and drives not big enough yet for storage.
Needing all this storage for my Photography . Just lost 300gb of wedding work and i don't ever want to go through that again ! It was the backup hard drive as well which was only switched on 3 hours a day to back up

SSD for storage is a waste, better off with HDs anyway :) I was just thinking about you partitioning the outside edge for the OS, SSD would negate the need for this, and be far more responsive.
Bit confused as to the problem of losing the backup?
DVDs are cheaper than HDs for backup, I would assume you don't need instant access to your entire photography collection? DVD isn't that slow to read in anyway.... Tho DVD isn't particularly helpful for stuff you're currently working on.
I personally wouldn't rely on one form of backup anyway for important stuff, I'd go for mirror raid and DVD backup. (or manual copy to another HD and DVD)

Tape backup as well, although tape drives can be a bit pricey, might pick up a second hand one, tapes are not too expensive.
