bet365 boss pays herself £265 MILLION

No issues with what she pays herself. The real issue is inadequate taxation for people like this. IF tax rates progressively increased to 70-80% then there would be far less of an issue with people getting such salaries.

She shouldn't have to pay more proportionally when she is already paying more in actual money.

But then she'd perhaps not pay herself a salary like that in the first place but just take a larger dividend payment.

Which as well as changes to income tax there needs to be a larger change in the taxation system as a whole.

then she can go live in Monaco and pay herself dividends tax free there

instead she's already paying a huge amount of tax at the highest tax band

I dont know how many work at b365, or what bonus schemes they may already have however in cases like this I would like to see more distributed to staff. If she took just 25% (c.£50m) of that payout and gave it out to staff that could be £25k each if there were 2000 employees which is life changing money.

If I was her, I genuinely cant think of a reason I wouldnt do that. Its nothing to her.

Progressive tax rates above the current top tier are about envy and nothing to do with tax income because we've seen time and time again the negative affect of driving away higher rate earners with deliberately punitive tax. In some sense respect to her for taking that money in the UK and paying tax instead of doing what so many UK millionaires do and offshoring it to avoid tax.

We can argue about the moral position of gambling until the cows come home that's a matter for legislators, she's not breaking the law.

Do you know what she currently distributes to staff?

Fair play to her, I would pay myself that if I could.

That it is declared probably means she is single handedly propping up our governments taxes. :D

Did the cleaner do 25k worth of work?

How do you justify a cleaner getting 25k bonus for part time evening work when there are managers and legal professionals working their arses off for the business?

If you are paying people for what they put into the company, would you not assess their worth to the company before handing out money?

As for giving to external charities, it can be viewed as taking some responsibility for the problems created by the industry that the company belongs to. I think it makes perfect sense for a gambling company to set up an addiction charity or an oil company to donate to an environmental charity, if not selflessly then at least for PR and image.

Why not?

If you had a company, that everyone who works there plays a part in, no matter how small, and you had more money than you could ever dream of spending, why wouldnt you make the lives better of everyone you work with day to day?

Id do that before giving to external charities.

I admire your philosophy but in the real world, if the cleaner gets 25k bonus, the cashier will want 50k, his manager will want 100k, the area manager will want 200k, before you know it she isn’t getting any bonus herself...and do you think that’s going to happen?

Clearly she's entitled to pay herself whatever she likes. Sports gambling is a cancerous industry though, it's long overdue for adverts to be severely cut back. Sick of endless betting adverts in the breaks while watching sport. It's a free market and all, but it does take a toll on society, and I would definitely call it a net social loss.

She can do what she wants.

Best bit is her crazy wage hikes up the womens average pay gap a fair bit :p

Pretty sure there comes a point where money becomes irelevirre, she must be near it.

I would think if everyone in the company is on decent wages to start with, if she declare a flat profit share of 25k for all FTE's, I don't think you would have higher ups clamouring for more. It would paint you in a bad greedy light to complain about receiving a 25k profit share out of good will.
