Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F | Netflix

I'm genuinely torn - I love the originals and I'm really glad to see "the gang" back together but, just like with his recent-ish Coming to America sequel, I can't help but feel it's going to be an awful "cash gab" based on nostalgia rather than it being an actually good story/film.

bar 3, 3 was a utter clusterf**k

1984, now in 2023 and Axel is still only a detective? Not sure how they are going to explain that.

Axel and especially Taggart should be enjoying their police pensions by now :)

Read recently how even the director didn't know what he was filming, studio wanting more of the same as before, which is good, but Murphy didn't want to do any of the comedy elements of the first two to be seen more as a "serious actor", he said it was surreal trying to film it.

Could be set around 10 years ago or something to explain how they're still (presumably in the case of Taggart) active and not filling out bus pass forms.

Mmmmmm, not sure about that - but maybe. I did read on another site that Axel is a Lieutenant in the new movie.

The 2nd film is awesome? The 3rd not so much, but Judge gave it his best, this 1 has everyone bar the original chief back, so it has major potential IF done right...

The first film has far more grit and weight, the second is much more goofball and played for laughs.

Yes, but it's a sequel it's allowed. There's still enough severity with their friend being shot etc etc to be serious when it counts, and still has the firsts ability to shift from humour to serious, plus the bond that's built up is very relatable after the first ones ended by the time the 2nd finishes, you can tell they've become true friends who care about each other, I like how believable that was.

It's the same kind of thing that happened with Temple of Doom and Ghostbusters 2. The original films are a different beast altogether, then the sequels almost feel like they are made for a wider or younger audience.
