BF2 patch 1.5 ..tba tomorrow

At last some good news on the BF2 front. From one of the UK Game sites it has said that the patch would be released as a Beta, so does that mean new game types, updated game engine ???

I'm going to guess that this will mainly be a map patch.

Dolphin diving and hitbox correction has never seemed high on DICE's agenda to sort out and will be too much work. Sure we will find out soon who's sponsoring the patch....

Just ordered the complete collection off the net. Not played a BF game since BF:Vietnam. £14 well spent I hope.

I believe that it will contain new maps and a new game mode (possibly gold rush from bad company?) as I listened to that radio show and something about a new game mode was mentioned.

Cant wait, BF2 is my fav game ever!

G36 and Rpk Smurf cannon need uber nerfing .
Engineers need to repair a lot quicker or double the repair points they get

From someone who knows his BF2 Onions and has well over 2000 hours play time .

I agree with you, but I think they should apply some moderation when it comes to nerfing, I mean take a look at the miniguns on the blackhawk, they totally destroyed a fairly large part of the gameplay in BF2 by nerfing that thing senselessly. I think with some small, simple nerfs on the G36 and RPK, they wont be so bad at all. Plus, I think in real life the G36 is a better rifle than the M16 anyway, so it would be stupid to make it worse than the M16. As for the RPK, I never really have a problem with that; once you've learned the prone animation, you can head shoot them before they've even hit the floor. :D

Also, I never figured out why there's no option for "stock weapons only" on servers (is there?). Would make some matches a lot more interesting, plus if people don't like it, we can just enable unlocked weapons again. I personally, find the L85A1 one of more well balanced and fun to use weapons in the game. It's not uber accurate, it has very bad recoil in auto-fire but the scope allows for some incredible headshots; with some skill of course.

* Medic ability to revive is similiarly diminished. They can revive only one person every 10 seconds, for example.

Rubbish , the whole point of infanrty is a squad playing together and attacking a flag together .

I agree, but I think it gets a bit ridiculous when you have litterally gangs of medics just continiously revive each other for sole purpose of statpadding. Putting some limit on how many times you can be revived or reduce the frequency at which a medic can revive people will not affect true teamplay, it will just put a stop to the rampant medic whoring thats been plaguing BF2 for much too long.

I think there are other, much more elegant solutions to problem, like some sort of specific stance you have to take before you can revive someone or some sort of delay before the revived soldier is back on his feet. The same can be said of claymores, e.g. you have to be crouching/prone when you place the claymore and you have to hold down the mouse button for 5 seconds before it can be activated; you can't just chuck it on the ground. Unfortunately I doubt these will happen though since they'd require pretty big changes to the graphics, GUI and animation system in BF2.

* There is a massive accuracy penalty when going from stand/crouch position to prone position.

Proning is all part of the game , you should have been around prior to 1.2 where you could propery Dolphin dive , run , jump and shoot all at the same time . Infanty only was crap back then .

All this will do is just stop the ridiculous prone-spamming-with-headshot-before-you-hit-the-ground nonesense. Even if there's a 1 second delay before accuracy returns to normal, it would make gameplay a lot more varied with a semblance of realism, rather than the same crappy instaprone manuvere people keep doing.

Changing stance is not considered a movement in the bf2 engine thats why throwing yourself on the ground is considered a good way to fire a gun because the prone accuracy improvement is instant - there is no transition

In PR mod they made it so you have to stop walking for a second before getting full accuracy which helps alter it slightly

I heard talk of adding in 1 second extra of prone animations, not sure that'd work but anything else would require code change and I dont think this patch is a code change just a new map and other small editor/mod fixes

A few of the AF/ EF maps are worth playing (Operation Harvest, Operation Smokescreen mostly), but unfortunately there's a horrible lack of servers.
Those which are around tend to not have much admin input, which IMHO is a shame.
Similarly, there's a huge number of the better servers these days which have started to cut maps out of thier rotation in favour of the more popular ones  Now, I like Karkand as much as the next person, but the more variety the better.

The only change I'd really make is upping the anti-air power a bit. Decent jet players can really dominate a map at the minute, and it requires the two sides to be balanced in terms of airpower to stop a disproportionate thrashing. Anti-air works, yes but IMHO needs to be able to kill jets more easily (Helps mind you, if I'm not the only person trying to run the AA :p )

Well the i was kinda expecting more info on the features that would most likly be included in the patch. But still good news there is going to be a new patch.
But what adverts are we going to get ingame ehh???

Bring back overpowered Blackhawks with passengers being able to cap flags!

That was great fun. Hated it when they got rid of that for all the whiners!

Ahh... Thread was made in June.

Patch delayed much? :p

DICE's biggest flaw, they build great games then patch all the fun out of them!

Think they're too interested in doing things for Bad Company, and next they'll be more interested in doing things for Mirrors Edge.
