BF3 Beta FPS thread

Purely going off what I've read today abut other people rigs I'd say you'd have a mix of Ultra and High settings to get 60+ fps at that resolution. 60 may sound low but it wont drop lower than that.

I'm thinking either a 6970 or even a 6990. But I'm a bit weary with next gen, how good are they going to get in comparison?

Dont think well see them for some time yet, last I heard was 1st 1/4 2012 and thats without all the delays that normally come along, I dont think we'll see the flagship 7000 series for another 6 months

I think it has been rumoured that 7000 series will offer around twice the performance of 6000 series.

So 7990 may well be twice as powerful as 6990

But I guess we gonna have to wait and see

my 4890 is really struggling with BF3, its hard to play with the fps lag. BFBC2 played superb, but time to start saving for a 6970/6990 or a 580 :(

Whatever you do, make sure to get 2GB+ card

BF3 eats up a lot of vram easily surpassing 1GB on 1920x1080p, where only couple of months ago, it was considered more than enough for such res.

I would even suggest waiting for next gen cards which I think are couple of months away

I seem to be having an odd issue that the game doesn't seem to fit on my monitor, I set the resolution to the correct one but things are half missing off the edge of the screen, minimap etc. Very odd, performance isn't great for me but at least it seems to be using 90 - 99% of the GPUs, they just aren't good enough :p

just give bf3 a go. seems a great game.

ok framrate according to msi afterburner, 59 fps outside 81 fps in the subway.

my setup is i7 930 @3.8
gtx 480 x2 sli @stock
30" dell @ 2560 x 1600
ultra everything 2xaa

i2500K @ 4.6GHZ
2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1872mhz DDR3
GTX 560 1024mb @ 850/2050mhz
1680x1050 @ 59hz

Just had another bash at the game, only stopped as my GF complained the flat was getting too warm (XFire pumps out a lot of heat!). I tried the beta drivers and I was getting 60fps minimum outside and over 100 inside. I still have the stupid tearing but not tried V Sync yet, but it was a lot smoother than the other night. I'm less itchy in getting a new card now, might stick the dosh in a savings account and wait out for now.

Hehe, i got my pc room up to 31c earlier with about 2 hours play, this hot weather is really not helping either :P

I've just done some more testing and tbh at 2560x1440 it's pretty unplayable in closecombat firefights when it dips below 40 frames on medium and high. On 1920x1080 it's fine @ high but it looks really ugly and blurry on my big screen... But I guess only SLI GTX 580 can fix this... but I'm not gonna invest in that.

Why are people running the game at 59 Hz?

It seems to be the highest Hz at the appropriate resolution for most players. BC2 was the same. I'm not sure why. When you look in the config files for both games, it's actually put down as 59.999987hz. Maybe somebody more display-minded can explain why for us?

You've got no chance of that.

Even if they could release a card with twice the performance they never would as it would severely impact on the performance gains they could boast for future releases.

Sad but true :( if it was possible to double the performance they would simply chop it in two so they could simply release said double speed card as an 8000 series later in the line, while keeping the 7000 series as a 50% increase (infact given the increases in cards of the past it could even be chopped into 3 or 4 releases)
