BF4 CPU-Test: Windows 8.1 up to 50% faster compared to Windows 7

Did they test on Intel? it's common knowledge that AMD FX has issues with Windows 7 so it's not necessarily down to DirectX differences.

edit: ah wait I see the graphs now 2nd page. :p

I'm just glad I got the cheap upgrade and did the workaround frssh install when it was £20 or so.

Hi i bought the W8 upgrade also, can this be used to do a fresh clean install with out using W7 first?

Cheers for any help as the past year or so ive been installing my W7 ultimate first then masking with the W8 upgrade install.
 
Hey, writing a few sentences is a hard job.

Does using Windows 8.1 give gaming improvements all round, or does BF4 use some high-tech voodoo?

yes you can do a fresh install i have done it from a usb key with the upgrade version ;)
 
I just upgraded from win 7 and had zero problems...

Did a c: clean with cleanmgr and deleted old Windows files and it's been spot on
 
Thing about the whole win 8 is better than 7 for bf4 beta is that a lot of people are running nvidia cards thats like my 670 which is 11.0 So im wondering how is win 8 better for those people? Because we dont have 11.1 or 11.2 stuff on our cards but somehow its better if we moved to win 8?

Personally, and im probably wrong here, I wonder if the devs just crippled win 7 performance on purpose cos ms gave the devs money so it ran better on 8 compared to 7 for no good reason. Tho thats probably just paranoia setting in. :D I still just think tho its just software related which i mean by that is that win 7 performance needs lookin at by the devs and hopefully the beta will be patched accordingly so there is a very small if any gap between win 7 and 8 performance for the last few days of beta or final release.

I mean win 7 is fully dx 11.0 yeah? If so then my 670 card should work just as well on win 7 compared to win 8 which has dx 11.1 or .2 which my card wouldnt support etc? Unless its just other things in win 8 that cause it to perform diff other than "just" dx 11.1 or .2
 
Hmm did a bit of searching and 670 and other keplar cards can use 11.1 as nvidia only didnt do 4 non gaming api features which didnt make them officially 11.1 cards. So meh win 8 might infact help cards like my 670 afterall.
 
I love these really dumb articles that test at unrealistic resolutions and settings to skew the results. :rolleyes:

No offence intended to the OP. It's the site and the general ignorance of things like this that annoys me.
 
Does this mean people getting the new AMD cards will need to get windows 8 to get the benefit of the new direct x?
That kinda sucks if true im more than happy with windows 7 lol but i guess if most new games use the newest version of direct x there all going to be slightly faster on windows 8?
 
Hold on, I thought Windows 8 was meant to be turd? Is it just BF4 the improvement can be seen on? Or most games?
 
I do also agree with above comments the 50% faster over win7 title was excessive, way to get more hits on the website? either way it should be titled BF4 benchies, Win 8 being 4-5fps faster then windows 7.

Perhaps we need a thread called 50% increase in BF4 with AMD Mantle patch....
