BF4 CPU-Test: Windows 8.1 up to 50% faster compared to Windows 7

Well he did question the fact I was a "games journalist" thus my response was... yes ;)

Anyhoo, back to Skyrim :p
 
Seem to be just an indie games reviewer rather than a games journalist, never mind though we all love to buff up our job titles.

Back on topic, Anyone seriously buying a new OS for BF4 ??? Whats happened to the kids today. 5-10 years ago we'd all be up in arms and cancel our pre orders. Instead people are throwing money at a terrible Beta. :( Me im out till it runs optimized for W7 as well as W8

No need for what? Was in jest and I even stated at the end of my last post everyone loves to buff their job title up! :p

To some degree I agree, but that said, if there really ARE improvements in Win 8 that let it run faster (not 50% faster, that's clearly a bug in one version, but 5-10% maybe?), then what you're suggesting seems to be that they deliberately cripple the win 8 version to maintain partiy with win 7? Should the game downclock your Titan so it doesn't outperform my HD7850?

I'm not buying win 8 for a game, as long as it's playable on my current system (which BF4 is, based on the beta), but I don't see the point in your suggested boycott. Are you suggesting the discrepancy is deliberate in some way? Or that they won't attempt to address it if it's a bug?
 
Guess at some point I need to test a similiar CPU with a faster GPU and Win 8 but even with everything low and clocking the nuts off the GPU I have in my laptop its never even vaguely CPU limited with the 3610QM @ 3GHz in Windows 7 - however much is going on ingame it never goes above 70% use and most of the time any lag at all is due to the GPU most of the time its smooth. Have to say it runs like a beaut as far as CPU goes on this laptop.

One thing I did wonder about - seen the RAM use spike momentarily to around 9GB sometimes when a lot is going on - was wondering if that was causing issues for people with only 8GB or less on Windows 7 but was somehow different in 8.

But it will be optimised for Win7. It is just that Win7 does not have DX 11.1 and will not have DX12 either.

Blame MS, not DICE. DICE are just using what is available.

I'm just glad I got the cheap upgrade and did the workaround frssh install when it was £20 or so.
