Biennial MOT tests

Saw this in traffic the other day. It passed its MOT 10 days before I saw it. The tyres were all bald, one of them with exposed cords, one of them was half flat, the thing looked like someone found it in a scrapyard and stuck an MOT on it.

Interestingly, it failed on a faulty brake light, but then passed on the same day. 10 days later when I see it, the brake light is off again. There's also no chance in hell that those tyres should've passed. Either a dodgy swap job or a dodgy MOT tester.

There's an absolute shed of a transit that parks on our road and I frequently see zipping about, hasn't had an MOT since June and looking at it's last list of advisories it's probably because it's about ready to fall apart.

Reported it to the police using their online form numerous times but it's still parked there most of the day with no sign of an MOT

do you reported it with photos and/or dashcam footage ?

Forgot this thread was here, thread delivers, it is like a list of reasons not to make it biennial,

I have mentioned my thoughts on this before, I think in my entire street, I only have seen myself and one other person open their bonnet and its a long street.

We are at peak "don't need to look at anything" sort of mentality. I know expense of servicing has been mentioned a lot.
But the other side I think is, generally, cars are much more reliable, so people are less interested. Combine this with the servicing cost, many people PCP'ing a thing then leaving it. Then I guess there are reasons people do not open their bonnet.

Had a bit of grief from a customer yesterday for me removing his dash-cam during the test so I could pass it.
His argument was that it should only fail if it's directly in his view (it was under the rear view mirror), so it was directly in his view, and he still wasn't happy.
I then asked that if he had damage to his windscreen the size of his dash-cam did he think that would be a failure, which he replied "yes".
Cue silence before the penny dropped.

Today (another car)..

Only slightly obstructing the view of the road.
So daft.
I didn't remove it because the car failed on numerous other stuff, one of which is in the picture.

I've seen people driving with their phones stuck to the windscreen literally right in front of them. Not to the side, not high up or down below, literally right in front of their faces. How these people are alive is a miracle.

I'll let you guess which sex it's been every single time too.

i did wonder about this we have a c max 2017 and the mirror has a large plastic cover that joins in the middle.
now when i fitted the front camera i bolted it through the plastic near to the screen but effectively just below the mirror as you look at it. was worried in case it failed on test , but they made no mention of it when tested a couple of months back.
may need to reposition in the future though, (still maybe higher than placing on the glass, its just below the shaded portion in centre.)

Correct, insta fail.
God only knows why so many people just ignore the dash warning lights, when it should be quite obvious that they're there and on for a reason.
Just because they're all lit up and looking pretty isn't a good thing
But it reminds me of Christmas, especially when some of them start flashing and there are weird buzzing noises from behind the dash whenever I turn things on or put my foot on the pedals.

Lost ones oil filler cap?
Then no worries, just replace it with a temporary fuel cap instead, and whilst you're at it, make sure it leaks like hell and is also fouling the cam gear, just like this..
