Cheap full sus I would avoid like the plague, go for a decent high end hard tail, although if you look at KHS or Canyon bikes you can get a fairly good full susser for great prices but not sure if you can get it on the cycle to work scheme.

Got to go get it on Saturday/Sunday, hope it's worth the hour drive to get there!

I'd be willing to try using SPD instead of buying some overpriced flats, after all drilling 12 holes, tapping them and putting some bolts through doesn't cost much yet you are charged the earth for this!

Used them a couple of times before on a road *spit* bike, but while I am still a noob I was opposed to them as I have still had some off moments on my mtb.

I guess you can just swap pedals over when you like, most SPD shoes for mtb purposes will work just as well with flats.

So what are the performance advantages/disadvantages to UST rims?

UST rims don't have spoke holes on the inside meaning there is no need for rim tape. In theory this makes a stronger rim. How much stronger I have no idea. UST has it's own beed hook design to stop tyres burping when ran tubeless and coupled with UST tyres offer the most secure design. They can also be ran without using sealant.

The disadvantage is that UST rims tend to be heavier and are more expensive than conventional rims.

Then there are the pro's and cons of UST tubeless, Tubeless Ready, Stans tubeless, Converted tubeless, and ghetto tubelss.

think i might of found a bike! At last! What do you guys think of this bike? and also could you tell me what year this bike is? The seller said it was a Specialized Hardrock but didnt give any more info. also, what would you upgrade if you bought this bike?

Fell off in the rain today managed to fall still clipped into my pedals, back wheel still in the road with a car behind and I managed to put my hand in my back break disk pulling it out of the way.

Nearly ripped my finger off but saved my bike :D

riding Cwmcarn Twrch trail on saturday
how is it compared with the wall or whites level?

It's ok in comparison. Cwmcarn is all about the top section and the bottom section descent. The first part is all uphill and a killer.

If you're doing two runs of it, do one full one if you want and then for the second take the fire road to the top, you'll come out next to the bottom of the Skills Area/Freeride section. Then do the final bits from there :) Or push up to the DH track :)

the first up? is it worse than whites level first bit?

White stuff looks good right up until you actually ride the bike, then it just looks dirty forever. I've made the mistake once with a build, never again. It annoys me when I'm forced to have white lowers on a fork.
