Big Bike Thread

I'm going to the UK at the end of this month and I'll be going to Llandegla on Monday morning 31st October. Any recommendations as to which route I should do. I want fun, flowing and nothing to technical. I'll be hiring a bike from the shop there too, so I may be on an orange 5 or alpine (I think).

If anyone fancies a ride, I'll be there at 9am on the dot until 12ish.

If it was the weekend I'd go but I'll be working on the Monday! :(

Just do the black route, its not that hard and you'll miss out on the best parts if you don't do the black. Its probably worth doing the blue too after you've done the black. The blue is fairly easy but I quite like it as its fast and smooth. The red just seems to miss out the fun parts of the black but have steeper parts.

Are they a good bike to try grab then? Never thought of ebay, thanks for that! I'll keep an eye out as I don't have my money yet, or i'd be bidding on that! :(

Yeh something like that would probably do, thats a 2009 version but if you look around on there you might get something newer. I got my 2010 Rockhopper Pro on Ebay, was under a year old and I got it for half the price it would have cost me new! It did take me a month or so of watching literally every single bike on sale there until I got a bargain though.

Pity, it would have been nice to ride with someone else for a change :billynomates:

Same, all of my mates are into running not biking! :(

Cheers.

I know near to little about bikes these days, are there any brands that should be steered clear of? Any recommended that are good value? Places like Halfords good for it?

Might now be a bad time as its coming up to xmas and prices might be up a bit?

Cheers for the help

Now is a good time to buy as you will get a discount on end of season bikes. Depending on the brand prices could go up, down or stay exactly the same for next years range.

Avoid Halfords as the service you get will more often than not be poor. There is nothing in your price range that is worth looking at there.

Other brands to look out for on the second hand market include GT, Kona, Giant and Trek.

Had a cracking ride at Gisburn Forest today despite the misreble weather and crap beads on my Kenda Excavator tyres.

I hadn't been for about 2 years but it seems like they have added a few sections not including the Hope Trail which is a great addition. The wind was too bad so I didn't go looking for the dh trails but still had plenty of fun on the black runs near 'the slab'. There are a lot of puddles around and the moment but everything is still rideable and in good condition.

Weighed my bike tonight.

12.9kg which is lighter than expected. Need to box it and re-weigh it now.

Thats heavier than all my clothes though, went on a massive binning mission with all my work clothes/scruffs. Nothing but shorts and t-shirt needed from next week!

Massive crash dhing today. Just got home from ER, left shoulder and pelvis took the damage. MRI this week to fully assess the shoulder damage. Mouth guard on my 661 evo carbon full face sacrificed itself to save my good looks. Didn't break but needs replacing.

New DH frame turns up this week. Ski resorts close for biking in a month
