A couple of photos from the top of the red route.
I'm glad I managed to sneak in a ride at Banchory yesterday. Only a tiny amount of snow at the top of the Cairngorms just now.

Winter...boooo

Where do you guys tend to buy your bike bits online? Chainreactioncycles any good? What other places are there?

As what has been mentioned above. But I try and buy from my LBS as much as I can. I get a discount and they try and match online prices too. :D

I had some other stuff years ago and it just went a brown tinted colour.
But some friends have the stuff i mentioned and its still clear. Just make sure you prep properly.
So cheap you can just renew it easily

Couldnt care less about scratches these days as if i chuck it on an uplift or bin it.

I need some new shoes to ride in and I can't decide.

I'm on flats, and most suggestions seem to be either the five ten impacts, karver or shimano am41.

The shimano's seem to be out of stock everywhere that has them for a reasonable price :(.

The impacts and karver seem to be readily available, but I'm not too sure on the differences between them. It seems like the only difference is the raised side on the karver to stop you whacking the crank arm and the shield over the laces, is that it or are there other differences? (other than the colour).

Mostly riding in a forest, so likely to get a lot/bit of mud at this time of year, so just wondering what would be best? or even any other suggestions.

Thanks.

I recently bought the Karvers from CRC, got em for £69 (£10 discount) using the discount code listed on the site for orders over £75.

Think the karvers are better suited to UK weather, better water proofing but either the karvers or impacts are fantastic shoes.

Just phoned up to get my house insurance renewed and to check my Pitch was on my policy and it turns out I wasn't insured properly for it last year!!

I'd phoned up and asked to have it added on last year and the woman had told me I could have it insured away from the house for £17 extra, spoke to the guy for my renewal and he said she'd added it as a personal possession not under cycle cover so technically it wasn't insured. This year its cost me about £150! :(

Also saw the funniest thing ever last night when I was leaving the gym.. Some guy on a bike tried to follow the car in front of me under the barrier before it closed but unfortunately he timed it wrong. The barrier came down just as he was about to go under and it swept him off the back of his bike! I made sure he was OK and he rode off but I was crying with laughter inside! :D

I have house insurance (contents only as we rent) with direct line, and when I phoned to check with them that my mate's bike was covered if I kept it in the garage they said it was. I said what, even if I say it's worth 2k....she went and checked and said it also would be covered. I said what if I don't have it locked but just in the garage...yep still covered.
I was like.....hmm. Not sure I believe them. Insurance is designed to shaft you. That's how it's defined in the dictionary actually.

This is a big contrast to the specific cycle insurance my brother took out on his 1k road bike. He paid about £50 and the terms were ridiculously strict on locks, where you leave it, how you leave it, for what time etc.

Meh, never insured my bike. It's in a sort of shed with brick walls but a wooden door, so cycle insurance won't cover it, and it's worth too much for the house insurance (apparently).

I just trust in the fact that nobody knows where it is and the ground anchor and motorbike lock to protect it :)

Never bothered with insurance myself, too many excuses for them not to pay out. I just never leave my bike where it would get stolen.
Zero chance its getting stolen at work.

I live in Liverpool though and had my last bike stolen from inside my house, it wasn't specified on my house insurance so I only got £500 back for it! :(

Sorry to say that I would not have been in a position to help much.... Given I would be doubled over in pain from laughing so damn hard, any ambulance would be for me :D :D

Could you even look at the guy with a straight face? :p

Tyres?

Currently got some Specialized Fast Track 2.0's on my GT Avalanche, and they're spectacularly rubbish anywhere but on the road!

Was looking at getting a pair of Maxxis Minion DHF's, but my LBS has only got 1 in, but they've got some Swamp Things or High Rollers in stock.

I was thinking of fitting the DHF and one of the others, any opinions please?
