+1 surely a wood bridge would have been better, if I was out on a trail and saw that I would either be cycling down the side or walking it... no fun at all.

 They dont design trails to make them as easy as possible.
If you dont like that sort of thing, just stick to the easier trails? Or get a road bike?

Does anyone know whether a a short cage mech will work with a massive casette? (11-36t casette in a 1 x 10 set-up)

There's nothing hard about those silly rocks, it's just an annoyance.
Natural rocky tracks - great. Silly random rock bits on a flat section - lame.

A bridge on a flat section? Riiight! Why would you rather walk than cycle? I can think of worse sections of trail...like fire road!

They have a lot of boardwalk bits up grizedale, some of on flat sections, they;'re kinda like a bridge. Unfortuantely Grizedale does have a lot of fire road and it seems to be mostly uphill!

Fireroad up hill isn't too bad, unless its followed by lots of fireroad downhill again! Can't wait to get up to Grizedale in a couple months though! :D

I'll be up there within the next couple of weeks again, there's some unmarked bridleway on the map for grizedale which might make it a little longer. might do that or do the trail twice next time i'm there.

I've had a look at Gisburn forest, anyone done the 18km one there?

Rocks on an XC track done well

Keep watching though, the rocks weren't the reason I posted the video...

So boring climbs with zero payoff does it for you then :p
Can't imagine much worse payoff than that.

Awsome Vid! Don't get why the guy in front didnt move out the way sooner, he was clearly a lot slower.

That dude in the Yellow is an absolute dick!

I wouldn't think twice to just smashing into the back of him! :p

The whole thing is just pathetic. The rider in front could have stopped and let the faster rider pass but at the same time the faster rider behind should have recognised he wasn't going to get opportunity to pass and just chilled a bit.

Threatening to run another rider off the trail is never going to help the situation. The actual 'assualt' and girly screams for help at the end are hilarious, what a pair of clowns! :D

Haha, I meant as long as theres a decent descent after the boring climb! It annoys me if I have to climb up loads of fireroad only to ride downhill on fireroad afterwards!

Gisbirn is ace, feels longer than it is. It seems to be a bit of a love/hate trail centre though.

I didn't enjoy it that much when I went, probably didn't help that it was horrible weather and tipped it down all day so I was drenched. Really need to get back there when its a bit drier so I can give it a more fair assessment!

I did hear they've got the go ahead to do some improvements there but not sure what was planned..

Yea, both were being arse clowns, crying "assault" was just plain gay.
Fact remains though that Mr Lycra really should have pulled off and let the faster rider pass.

Personally would have just waited after realising he won't pull over, have a breather and continue later on.

hi all , first post in this thread so please be gentle :D

Ive got an old raleigh cyclone that ive started using primarily for getting fit,ive been doing around 50 miles per week for the last 7 weeks along canal tow paths, the problem im having is with the back axle, basically i had to remove the back wheel to fix a puncture, when refitting the wheel i must have tightened to hard and now the whole axle is spinning as i tighten one of the outter nuts,so i tried to tighten the inner nuts but that stopped the wheel from rotating freely once fitted.

so i slackened them off slightly but now its getting hard to centralize the wheel as it keeps pulling to one side and rubbing against the bike frame once its tightened up,will i have to get the axle replaced as it seems to be the main cause of my problem ? or is there some way to "realign" the axle to stop it spinning myself ? its only started spinning and spazzing out recently since the wheel has been off several times in the last couple of weeks

altho im 36 im a complete novice when it comes to bikes and thier maintenance lol so i hope my post makes sence :)

I have no problem slowing, stopping or giving slower riders a few mins before heading down a trail. Everyone is out on the hill for the same reason, to have a good ride. The last thing a new rider or a rider lacking in confidence needs is me buzzing at their back tyre attempting to pass.

That said, if I'm slowing someone down I'll happily pull to one side, when it's safe, to let someone pass. Luckily I never seem to be out on packed trails and I very rarely encounter either situation.

On the video, both riders seemed competent but were both at fault. Clowns like these give all Mountain Bikers a bad name, let's hope it's not picked up by the wider media.
