Depends - is the top model within your planned budget?
What shocks have you had in the past and do you understand what you want out of your suspension ? (in other words will you be able to tell the difference between the vivid and the CCDB?)

That said, the pro you linked is amazing value and thats the one I'd get.

My planned budget was about £2000 which is why I was looking at the YT but I would pay a bit more for the pro because the spec is a little better and the shop is a mile from my house.

No I absolutely would not be able to tell the difference at the moment but the plan is to use it almost every weekend so I don't want to regret it down the line, that said the comp is still a lot of bike for me to grow into. I also prefer the black frame but accept that that alone cant be used to justify the difference in price. What are the Elixir 3s like, are they good enough for a DH bike?

Edit: Brakes are Elixir 7s not 3s, it was a misprint on another site.

I've ordered the stans tubeless kit, try my 5.1d tubeless with the hans dampf, hope its easy to fit.

That's what I have on my ht and one of the tyres was an absolute bitch to fit, if you need some ideas send me a message.

edit actually mine is the dt swiss kit so you might find it easier.

I'd pony up for the Pro, you already budgeted for 2k and it's basically a top spec DH bike with no upgrades required.

On the flip side, the comp will be more than capable and you'll have extra money spare for protection and uplifts.

I'd steer clear of the YT Tues at the moment, it appears quite a few of them are going out with mis-aligned rear ends! Better to deal with your lbs on this occasion.

bit of advice please guys..

budget of 500-650, 2nd hand. after something thatll be a good alrounder, covering distance and decents.

seen a few specialized pitch, marin wolfridge, kona stinky/coilers around that sort of price range, just watched a cove hustler go just over budget (was 200 mile round trip too). is that the sort of good options to look out for?

I would avoid the stinky.

I had one, it's a great bike for going downhill but it's too heavy and squashy to pedal far.

Ok so I finally got around to placing my order!!!!

Super excited about getting it now!

After being bikeless for two years now (my bike got stolen outside where I work) I have decided to get a new one. Although I enjoy off road I prefer to cruise on road, covering larger distances and taking in some serious scenery to boot. After much deliberation I have settled on the B'twin Triban 3 fro Decathlon. £299 for a good spec starter bike. I was going to go with the Carrara TDF from Halfords. Both bikes have had great reviews and are the same price. However most people are saying the Triban is better all round. I am going to go to Decathlon on Sunday to have a look and see how it feels and get measured up for it.

All I need to do now is get some gear for it and spare tubes etc. Oh, not forgetting a speedo of some sort. Anyone got any recommendations on one? I don't want to spend more than £20 on one and prefer wireless if possible.

Quite looking forward to it now. Hopefully I will be getting it at the end of the month.

Can't go wrong with the Sigma Sport computers from Decathlon.
