My meta came in a box, and I have spend most of the weekend tuning it up. It is a thing of beauty, pics will follow soon.

The SRAM guide RS brakes needed a good bleeding straight away. Theyre still not that great to be honest, I dont have a bleed block so had to improvise. The X11 gears are a bit clunky/chattery, and my rockshox stealth post needs a bleeding also. Few random noises.

This bike is going to be awesome, but it needs a good shop tune up.

Are you sure the reverb needs bleeding...or do you just need to turn the adjuster to make it pop quicker?

Also check the air pressure in the post.

I'm not sure now, I thought it was fine when I set it up, cut the excess cable etc. When I took the bike out for a quick spin the post started to not return up though. But when I got home and I tested it again it seemed to work again  It is set to the fastest setting, I'll fiddle with it more tomorrow and see. It could be the air pressure in the seatpost?

As for the brakes, I bled my front brake twice, and was getting a really low bite point even after bleeding. So I have checked that the caliper pistons move freely which they do, and removed the wheel, pressed the lever and then put the wheel back, which seems to have done the trick.

Good to hear, they will be great when they are tuned up nicely.

I usually do all my DIY myself so taking it to the shop feels a bit cheaty, I'm in need of a good bike workstand, any recommendations?

Park Tool PCS-9. about £70 (from the people in the rainforest) but very solid, and fold-down-able.

Hard to imagine a life without a bike stand. Gone are the days of sitting down on the floor / bending over and killing my back!

PS: Glad to hear you're snipping and tucking away at the cables, pet hate seeing new builds with cables all messy :)

The Zee mech I bought doesn't quite fit my bike with 2x10. I knew the mech was supposed to be for 1x10 but a few people had said it works. Will probs upgrade my main bike to 1x10 at some point so will keep hold of it until then.

I got out for a little ride yesterday, took the little man out in his new trailer. He enjoyed it, was laughing all the way. Looking forward to the summer so we can get out more.

I hope my missus doesn't spot what my pedal did to the leather dining chair :D

I used to have one, it was great fun, very playful. Similar weight to an Orange Five though so unless you really need the strength and stiffness, I'd go for a Bandit instead.

Well, mine pedalled like most single pivot bikes if that's worth anything to Matt. With a decent platform shock it was fine. With the CCDB the bike tyre stuck to the trail like **** to a blanket.

Cheers dude. :)

It's for the wife anyway, so she's not going to be massively fussed on the finer points of its' handling, she's not really pushing the limits of her Stumpjumper at the moment but it's a 2007 model so getting a bit tired.

This Covert is a 2013 and came up 2nd hand for what I reckon is a good price, so went for it - it's a lot more bike than she can use! :D Took it out on Saturday but it was far too slidy on the ice for her. Heck, even the Capra was running out of grip!

Does anyone know of these forks? Fox 32 float - 2013 model

http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/fox-32-float-26-100-remote-white-407583/wg_id-820

A mate of mine is looking into buying these but can't find any more info on them other than what's on the above site. Even the model number doesn't pick anything up on google.

Alternatively, any other suggestions for 26" forks with a standard QR, 100-120mm travel, around the £250 mark?

I said I would treat myself to a dropper post this year. Every time I go to read up on them again I talk myself out of it because I can't stand buying things that have a high chance of breaking or going wrong. Is there anything new in the pipeline? It seems every single one has a compromise of sort.

Just buy a Reverb and stop looking at the minority of horror stories.

Millions of us are happily using them without needing to post about the fact they are working, while the enraged handful post about them not working.

I'm making generalizations here as I haven't ridden that year of fork but a few other years of similar models. Fox Float forks are very smooth. The seals aren't the best on older models but if you clean the seals after every ride it makes a huge difference. They are a little on the flexy side but nothing horrendous.

I caved and took the bike for a shop tune. Now when it comes back I will know 'the level' for my own tinkerings!

Here is a couple of smudgey pics of the bike being put together with the little lad on Saturday
