I ride everywhere, apart from Scotland. I try and avoid weescott as much as possible basically
(only kidding, just not got around to it for some reason)
Mostly SE England if I'm staying local - so basically Aston Hill, Woburn Sands, Surrey Hills, Swinley, Rogate, Hindhead ... then further onto Forest of Dean, Bikepark Wales, Bringewood. Then usually once a year over to Morzine and do all of the PDS.
You based in Sweden then, or in the UK?
Went through the Neckbrace discussion too many times to count, but for brevity, my opinions are as follows:
I don’t believe the people who claim to say that the neckbrace will increase the risk of collarbones going. It’s as anecdotal as the kids who claim that the neckbrace have saved their lives over and over. From personal experience (yes, more anecdotal evidence) on a few occasions mine’s taken the brunt where I would have bruised my collarbone / chest.
Nay sayers also voice the opinions that in the past, you never used to see people breaking their necks left right and centre… but I believe that technology is moving forward quicker than the general skill level. The quality of components and bike geometry allows for greater speed and better safety, much more than in the past. While as a general % I believe it’s safer, I think that the higher speeds these days achievable by average skilled can result in “bigger” and potentially more dangerous crashes. That, coupled with the booming MTB market I think that serious injuries could become more commonplace. Just look at the new breed of “Enduro" helmets as a prime example of more protection needed for general trail riding.
Genuinely reading up as much as I could about the subject prior to buying, it seems that Leatt (didnt read too much ab ut the other brands) did do their homework, and I feel I can trust them. The % possibility of breaking my neck might be minute - but if all it costs me is an expensive man-necklace that won’t hut me, I’n prepared to pay for it.
Probably going to undermine everything I said above, but I find myself doi g bigger things these days just wearing my trail lid, where I used to wear my full face and neckbrace only a couple years ago
Generally only wear mine these days on uplift days.
..rewind about 2 years ago...
I still shudder at the thought of what could have happened on this day if the fall was only a tiny bit differently angled.
I was "lucky" enough to have completely flat land, "starfish" style. If pitched a little bit more forward after my seat bounce, and landed more" scorpion like" , I now would have been disabled, given the lack of the neckbrace. I'm pretty blinking sure about that.
If I had my neckbrace ON, and landed in the same way I did, would I have crushed my sternum or the like ? The force of the impact was so much, that I was knocked out and my helmet shattered.
