Bought a new Trek Madone 4.5 at the weekend :) Couldn't stretch to a 5 series, but very happy with this one.

Build quality is great and the 105 group set is silky smooth. Feels so light and fast compared to the 80's Vitus I was riding (now to be used as a crap weather and turbo bike) but the old steel frame has the edge on ride quality . Glad I didn't go aluminium.

Will post pics when I get some good ones but it's this bike and colour scheme:

Final day of the DH season at my local ski resort today before they switch to winter operations. Hoping to do a full weekend at another resort next weekend.

I had a  day.

just bought myself a claud butler urban 600, bargain at £530.... not as hard core as some of the bike son here but a good place to start i think!

Please could anyone give me adive on a new tyre, This is for the rear as I have been borrowing a Spesh tyre and I keep getting pinch flats even when fully inflated.

its running on my hardtail Onone summer season with a Maxxis Larsen TTxc up front. which I love to bits. I could get another for the rear but wanted opinions. 2.0 - 2.2 please.

I'm in the same situation as you although I need a new front and rear. Check out the Kenda Excavator, seems like a pretty new tyre and it gets very good reviews, 2.1 in the back :)

Cheers for the clothing advice fellas :)

I'm a bit annoyed as the 19" Specialized bike they suggested I'd need was far too small, so luckily they have 9 of the 21" frames in the warehouse and it is being shipped out this week. I might have chance on Thursday to have a look but I was looking forward to cycling home on my new steed!

Strange that - I nearly bought one today as well. 2009 model in the blue and white. It was really well built, nice and light and I liked the mix of 105 & ultegra. Great wheels as well.

If I can persuade the missus tonight I'll go for it. Just need to flog my Scott Speedster S40 as well. Only had it a couple of months, but I really want carbon!

Nice bikes those. I like the urban range(well the 300 upwards) but I wish the 600 had a similar colour scheme to the 500.

i'm quite happy with the grey and orange and by god it's fast on the flat.

having spent all my spare cash on the bike i haven't been able to afford a helmet yet so am trying to stay off the main roads,

had an incident with me doing about 25mph down a path and a blind lady with a guide dog (no joke) appearing out of no where!

hydraulic disk breaks are immense!!!!

and the 1:1 ratio crawler gear makes even steep hills feel like i'm going along the flat.

only done 3 miles on it so far but i'm just starting to get my fitness back!

Can anyone give me any advice on winter legwear/footwear for XC riding? Went on a ride on Sunday with my normal shorts on and regretted it afterwards when I had soaking wet feet, legs and arse. Not good!

I've been considering getting some overshoes and overtrousers to keep me dry, and then maybe some tights as a base layer (which my friend recommended). I currently have Shimano MT60s, which are excellent shoes (and are Gore-Tex), but don't have a very high cut, so aren't great at keeping the water out (hence overshoes).

I'm also tempted to get front/rear mudguards as I ended up with a soaking wet saddle and shorts and mud all over my backpack, top, and arms after riding through lots of puddles (unsurprisingly I guess). Are they worth it?

Just a get a crud catcher for the front - and make an inner tube thingy on the forks (Neoguard) - dont get the gay guards! front & back

What's the point in Neoguards? How can mud spraying through the front of the fork hit you? The majority comes from the back wheel for me – completely soaked me around the saddle area.

Try to stay of the pavement then :P Riding on the road is easy once you can keep a good pace and learn the road. Yould should be pushing 20mph easy on the flats on that I would imagine. I sort of wish I had disc brakes after my Vees decided they would just not work on a wet ride home!
