can anyone recommend some gears for a downhill build (07 big hit) ? got a bargain on the frame courtesy of ebay and since im from a bmx background i have no ideas at all on gears. sram or shimano ? road derailleur or mtb ? id go singlespeed if i easily could...so cant imagine i need anything amazing , trying to spend as less as possible but without it being total crap

Forget singlespeed for a DH bike. :) Sram or shimano really - shimano gets my preference especially the Saint range of components.

Whats your budget mate? And what exactly do you need?
What did you get with the frame exactly? Rear shock? Forks?

Get on Ebay and get some XT (Shimano) gear if you can't push to Saint :)

had a blast today, went out to ben aigen for the first time and decided to take on The Bunny section which was pretty cool appart from the massive climb up to it and there were far too many fallen trees across the trail :(
then headed over to ordiequish for a quick blat on the dragons tail.
perhaps not a good idea as my blood sugar levels were falling and was on the verge of going hypo but went for it anyways, nearly coming a cropper as my new 203mm rotor on the back is fierce!!!
sliding sideways into a berm and the only thing holding me up was my pedal LOL :D it felt awesome and i only wish there was someone else behind me to see it :D

all in all a great days riding and there were loads of other nutters out enjoying it :D

As we are doing nasty pics heres one from my face plant which led to a week in intensive care - eventually.

Wasn't wearing a helmet, not sure a helmet would have done a great deal as i
literally landed on my face, my "head" didn't touch the ground......

I was accelerating and was upto just over 20mph when my bike decided to come out of gear, so slipped off the pedal then over the handle bars -after my groin had had a collision with them (got some nasty bruising from that but alas no pics lol)

TBH I was out cold so i didnt really have any pain (until after my op) it just felt
a little bruised. I woke up to 2 policemen standing over me which wasn't the nicest thing LOL.

I think getting the catheter out was just as painful / uncomfortable.

So onwards an upwards, helmet bought and new bike bought, I cant really look at my old one yet tbh.

Have spent ages looking through forks and cant make my mind up, but I ave one
last pair of forks to consider.

Item No. 360229870746

I have settled on 100mm travel, my current forks are waaaaaaay heavier than this, and I needed post mount.

Does anyone have any exp. with these forks?

Thanks

Andy

I would look mainly at Rock Shox or Fox as they are generally more reliable and easier to service over here.

Edit: what is your budget? Merlin have a Recon SL 2010 For £170 and a free FSA Orbit headset.

You don't need a post mount; you can easily buy adapters for IS mounts. And as already said, you'd be better off going with Rock Shox or Fox really. Rock Shox would probably fit your budget better: maybe Toras or Recons?

Having moved to Whistler 5 weeks ago I've finally given in to the biking urge. Not done much before much apart from light trails but seriously loving it now. I always came to Whistler for the snow, but summer has a new lease of life for me now.

Quick pic of the bargain I picked up ($450cd - ~240gbp!):

2007 Devinci Hucker - feels solid as a rock!!

Should be heading to the bike park for the first time this week

Think I might be getting the biking bug... tried my mates Cove DH Shocker at work today...mmmm do want!

Devinci Hucker for how much?! Thats a bargain dude.

LOL another choice shot down :D

Think ill give up and face the fact unless i'm prepared to spend more money im not going to get a decnt upgrade weight / performace wise.

Horrible how I set out looking for a used DH bike for around £400-700 and I'm now looking at 2010 Stab Deluxes, has to be the worst sport for spending money :D

Hi everyone - noob question here. Took my mountain bike out the shed yesterday after about 6 months of no use (no movement at all in fact for the bike). Its a GT Aggressor, front and rear brakes are discs (Juicy 3 I think).

When spinning either wheel, they appear a bit sticky.. i.e. not spinning very freely. The brakes still work (the wheels stop when the brakes are pressed). Not sure what to do... could the brakes have bound? Or maybe need to lube something? Thanks!

Can you tell what's causing the friction? If it's the brakes then the rotors should be visibly rubbing against the pads in the callipers. Otherwise, it's most likely the hub.
