I would seriously consider Wheelcraft. If they can build strong DH wheels for Scottish DH tracks then you know you will get a good wheelbuild. Postage isn't going to be any more expensive than places a lot closer to home.

hmmm, does anyone know of a decent wheel re-builder, i've just dug out an old halo combat back wheel, if memory serves the freehub went twice, ( think it was a dodgy batch ), the rims sound and true, it'd be nice to have it re-built with a more modern hub

Consider it may work out about the same cost to have some new wheels built than getting new hubs restrung. Do you have a local bike shop? They maybe able to do a competitive wheel build.

And I agree those Scotts are a little backward :p

Afternoon Guys,

After much deliberation, pressue and a few favours of the sexual kind from Weescott I have finally taken the plunge and bought myself another bike - Having quite a few years out of the sport meant I had no idea what was good, bad or even acceptable.

Thanks to Weescott, I purchased a Focus Thunder - And I must admit, its the best purchase ive made to date. Having years of expereince riding Giant bikes, words do not describe the diffrence between my old Giant and this new Focus....

Anyways - Pics attached.

I still can't believe you got so much bike for so little money. I suggest you get new pedals before your 25 stone frame snaps them! :p

Did you buy the Talas forks seperately or was it a second hand bike with them already on? Nice bike though and one I was considering before I bought a Felt.

Hmm, my bike's developed a god awful squeek from the rear hud (I think). Sounds expensive, anyone know what it could be? Gonna take it to my LBS next week to look at. Tried dropping a bit of lube in there but hasn't helped really :/

Nice bike, do you ride with the seat that low? If so surely the frame is too big?
Nice forks ;)

Im 6ft 2" - Im not sure the medium would have been suitable :-)

Its a new bike - 2nd ride infact. Im trying a number of riding positions - Suffice to say, this is not the usual height the seat is at.

Even if I told you what I paid for it - You wouldnt believe me :-)

Wheelcraft is meant to be the best in Scotland.

Don't be put off by the naff website:

http://www.wheelcraft.net/

Mr gow is godlike with wheels. Pretty sure he builds a lot of the local road club wheels.

Halo combats are far from godlike and probably would be a waste of his talent working on it, the SAS were good but the combat was always a bit crap going by a few horror stories I've heard.

A bit of painting, bearing repacking and spannering this evening, et voila:

I had some old white pedals somewhere but I lost them almost immediately after I found them, so I nicked the toeclip pedals off my Viscount. I think they might have to stay! The saddle is an eBay Selle cheapy but turns out to be dead comfy on this bike. Just need to add a couple of links to the chain so I can get the rear wheel right to the back of the dropouts. I'm going to ride this to work on Monday :)

I rode a bike 7 miles today, first time I'd been out on a bike since July 8 \o/

I'd rather it had been 70+miles but as I can't hold on properly with my right hand I thought it best to have a simple first ride out.

i know theres better wheels out there, am just trying to recycle what i've got, and keep the price down. and the combat offers a great sized footprint for me, i dont really like skinny little rims lol
