A bit of painting, bearing repacking and spannering this evening, et voila:

I had some old white pedals somewhere but I lost them almost immediately after I found them, so I nicked the toeclip pedals off my Viscount. I think they might have to stay! The saddle is an eBay Selle cheapy but turns out to be dead comfy on this bike. Just need to add a couple of links to the chain so I can get the rear wheel right to the back of the dropouts. I'm going to ride this to work on Monday :)

A guy came into my work yesterday with an old peugot racer. Mavic gp4 rims on campag record hubs and using tubs!

It had that style pedal you use in mint condition aswell! :o

You'd be well in with the Chav element here in York as they all seam to ride little bikes like this at the min ! :p

why the track pump ? would a smaller pump that you can take too and from work easily not be better ?

Agreed but ideally you want one of each as it's nice to have a track pump at home or in the car for getting up to a decent pressure with little effort. A small pump, whilst essential for rides, is too much like hard work for me to be used at home. In fact i'm even lazier than that and use 12V compresser which i keep in the car.

With a small pump it's difficult to get 700c tyres up to the required pressure. I've got that pump and it's easily good for 120psi. If you are going to be repairing your own punctures roadside then you'll also need a saddle bag with spare tube, levers, etc and a mini pump.

great day, typical for a monday lol

rear brakes are screwed, changed me tire last night, go to re-adjust brakes after a through dousing with wd 40, nada, i love mondays, so new brakes coming on wednesday i hope

Right being realtively new to this MTB lark, I need some advice about tyres. The tyres on my bike are getting low and I have no idea what to get to replace them. The rims are Mavic 317s and I do mainly XC stuff. What should I get as there are sooo many tyres to choose from?

You put WD40 on the brakes? I don't get it.

Tyres are personal preference a lot of the time, I run Continental Mountain King Supersonic and highly recommend them.

I did exactly the same on my road bike last night.

Ultegra dual pivot callipers and the rear NDS pad wasn't returning after braking, it was just rubbing the rim. Liberal application of WD40 (actually is was GT85, but same thing) to the pivots and return springs and this morning it's performing perfectly.

I used to run Panaracer Fire XC's and Panaracer Cinders on my XC bike back in the day, they were cheap(ish) and had plenty of grip.

I've heard good things about the Conti MountainKings too, I quite fancy giving the MK Supersonic 2.4's a try as my Spesh Eskars are really quite dangerous :p

On another note, I mangled my mech hanger on Saturday - no idea how it happened, got to the bottom of a descent and tried to peddle, whoops :o

I am running Some Panaracer Fire XC at the mo, seem to be my tyre of choice at the the minute. A mate is running the mountain kings and he did not like them said they had far to much give in slippy/wet conditions.

Ok so the MountainKings seem to be a good bet then. How do I know what size I want, ie a 2.2 or 2.4?

The 2.4 measures 2.25" so it isn't that big a tyre. Something to consider. Make sure you get either the Supersonic or Protection versions. The standard cheap versions are rubbish.
