This time of year most trails will be mud slogs or ice rinks, probably rideable but not the best experience on a bike.

Weather and people riding it whilst its a bog, and making it worse. The geology around there isn't the best apparently, but you've got to question the wisdom of building a trail and making a big thing of the opening if it isn't even going to last the winter?

It'll be back in the Spring/Summer - it's been the same every year I remember.

It really isn't a bike to be jumped on. Still, did it about 10 times. On a few, managed to get some proper speed and clear the gravel, unfortunately bottomed out fr and rear with a rather large thud!
Its similar height to a train platform fyi.

just bought some new pedals do i need grease the threads before inserting them?

You don't have to but anything on the threads will prevent them siezing up, I usually put copper grease on all threads.

Need a little help deciding which disc brakes to purchase. I'm currently running Hayes 9's which are about 5-6 years old now, and need either a full service or replacing. So i've decided i what to replace them (they don't look too healthy either). Anyway my budget isn't massive looking to spend about £60 on just the front set up (will get the back another time as that isn't too bad). I can afford to spend more but would rather not as i've spent about £200 on my bike this month already and i've only just started riding it again. Although if it's really worth spending that little bit more i might be tempted.

Been looking on CRC and they seem to have quite a few really good deals at the minute. To me the Shimano Deore (no Disc by the looks of it) for £52 looks good. Avid Juicy 3 (although read they aren't the most realible) for £64. Clark S2 for £40 (but also read these are hard to get parts for).

Edit: just seen a set of Avid BB7's (£45), how do these compare to hydro's in the price range above?

I currently use my bike for cummuting and XC trails, Will be getting more into it during the summer once my fitness has improved. so i don't use my brakes heavily at the minute. But do need to slam the brakes on sometimes when commuting and other road uses don't see me. So with that i mind i need something fairly good.

I take it my hayes 9's are IS mounted and not Post mounted?

Need some advice with setting my forks up please, I don't think they are set up properly. They are the Darts that came on my Hardrock Pro Disc. I know with rear shocks you have to set sag by sitting on it and it shout be 25% of the travel (I think!!). Do I need to set sag on the forks and how would I do that? Also, how do I know if the rebound rate is set correctly?

I was riding over some frozen ground recently and it felt not really any differnt to my old Kona rigid!

Yes that's IS mount.

You set sag the same as on any shock, rebound is personal.

So would I set the sag sitting on thee bike as it doesn't move at all when I'm just sat on it right now? Is 25% the right amount?

Thanks, just wanted to double check really i know there pretty much standard.

Actually is it possible to mount bigger disc on these mounts, noticed some of the 185mm kits are cheaper than the 160mm kits. Does the IS mount/bracket that comes with these simply reposition the caliper to the correct position (would make sense).

Sorry if this is an obvious answer, i just know very little about bikes or where to look.
