June 10th, need the snow to stop so I can train more. Another 6" forecast for tomorrow :/

I never really had NYC as a heavy snowfall area TBH. I mean its as far South as Spain etc so you would think it wouldn't suffer from prolonged snowfall

Will you be using one of those GPS things that integrate with the website so people here can follow your progress ??

Quick question,

Disc brake calipers are the front and rears the same ?

Seen some cheap brakes but only front ones available, So I assume I can just flip the levers and get longer hoses and run a pair on the rear ?

Brakes in question are Avid Code 5 for £59

Save your money and buy a decent set of brakes!

Im looking to import a bike from the US,Its from a ebay shop and works out at a hell of a saving to the uk price.

The bikes worth £2k including shipping to the uk. in 2 boxes ,frame in one and wheels in another.

If the bikes declared value is £2k what sort of charges am i likely to pay once it reaches the uk?

Sorry i know it maybe a daft question but ive never imported anything of this value before.

Also as anyone done this before and i it worth the hassle?

Thanks

Lots IIRC, Customs Duty then VAT on top. 14% Duty and 20% VAT I think (might be wrong..) but that'll be £736 on top of the £2k.

I don't think that's accurate.
My brother in law got his new bike from the states and it didn't cost him all that much. I'll ask him how much he had to pay on top.

If you could do that ,that would be appreciated as its going to cost me £1500 less importing it rather than buying in the uk as its an ex demo bike.

Also with it being shipped as frame + wheels its not a complete bike ,would i still be charged the 14%?

Wait what?!
Avid Code 5 brakes not good brakes?! Don't listen to Ichabold - he uses Hope brakes so clearly has no idea what he's talking about! :D

Code 5's are very very powerful and a bit heavy, so I agree on the overkill statement but they certainly aren't anything less than very very decent!

I bet you don't use codes on your bike :p

The code 5 is a juicy 5 lever running a code calliper which might have a lot of stopping power but it s a serious DH brake, and is overkill for pretty much everything else. Also the juicy 5 levers are awful they have very little in way of modulation and are pretty much on or off so pairing them up with a 4 pot brake your going to go over the bars with one twitch of the front brake.
