Big Bike Thread

Bought some 09 RL120's in Jan, got them pumped to the right pressure for my weight and had a few good rides on them.

However, the remote lockout has stopped working, the cable seems to be loose and the lever doesn't do anything when moved to either position. The forks now feel a lot harder too, they still travel and I got through most of the travel yesterday after some big hits, but they feel wooden and hard where they were nice and bouncy before.

The only thing that's changed since they were riding ok (other than the remote lever not working) is that I hosed the bike down after a ride last weekend, although I was careful not to aim the water directly at the fork seals.

Any ideas?

The superstar ultra mags are not worth the extra over the nanos..

Ive got the ultras and granted there light but the paint doesnt last long and i dont think they're that grippy, if purchasing again would go nanos.

Thinking of doing Snowdon Ranger Path in April, dilemma !

Which bike to take ?

Giant Reign 150mm travel all round and Conti Rubber Queen 2.4s for great grip and weighs about 30lbs
or
Merlin Malt 4 100mm front travel only !Panaracer Fire XC 2.10, probably weighs 25lbs.

I think its got to be the Giant as it pretty heavy duty and makes coming down so easy.

Would I be mental to try this on the Merlin ?

Do you all think traction is better on a Full susser on bumpy climbs over a hardtail ?

What do you guys think ?

Pedals are only as grippy as the shoes your touching them with though. I used my nanos with a pair of ordinary trainers and they were very underwhelming, but in my five-ten FR shoes it's actually really hard to move your foot without taking it completely off the pedal.

I'd be going for the Giant, you could do it on anything I suppose, but I think the Giant would be more fun.

This is a picture of someone else's from earlier in the thread. I seem to have messed up the quoting when I tried to snip it a little!!!!

I love GT's.

I have an Aggressor from 1991ish which I bought off Gumtree for £35. It needs some work and then I'm selling it to my housemate. I'll enjoy bringing it back to life though.

I also have a 2008 GT Avalanche which I've singlespeeded. This one is my pride and joy. Once I've actually got round to buying a camera I'll post some pictures.

Also have a Saracen Forcetrax from the 90's era as well which I'm currently in the process of converting for touring. :)

Given they were working fine, then overnight they've stiffened up while the remote lever seems to be at fault, I imagine I can fix this without a full service, I just don't know how to approach it.

I take it you have tried twiddling out the lockout lever cable adjuster?
I dont have my bike to hand but can you pull more cable though at the fork end?
