How many bikes have you chaps gone through since being 'serious' about the hobby?

I too was wondering this.

I've got the bug but financially i have a feeling the wifey wont approve.

My idea of Buying a Canyon yellowstone have been well and truly scuppered this week, so next year im going all out on a new bike.

Had almost all of mine in the back room the other day!

Had a 2000 Carrera Banshee, first full sus. Long dead now. Next came a:

1998 Specialized FSR Elite, Hayes discs, got in 2002 - now used by fiancee.
2010 Specialized Pitch, replacement for a stolen 2008 Specialized Pitch.
2011 Specialized Big Hit, + Boxxer forks. (See back a couple of pages for pics)

Not had the Big Hit down any DH runs yet, only had it a week! Cant wait though...

Edit: Oh, and in the loft is a 14" framed jump/trials type bike that I built up quite cheaply, looking to sell it now.

I could quite easily see myself having a small horde one day.

I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to sell my current bike - just wouldn't seem right - but I'd still love to own a Rockhopper, a touring bike and a custom one that I've made up from scratch.

I best hope one day I own a garage really.

Ive had 5 over the years, all hardtails of varying cost and quality, the best of the bunch were a Trek 4000 or something about 5-6 years ago, couple of years back a Commencal CombiDisc, and my latest ride a On One 456.

slowly worked up from XC bikes, to do it all, throw it around bikes lol.

im on my 2nd bike now in 2.5 years lol. but then i spend about £1.7k at a time. my first bike didnt survive the jump+tree i ran it into, I was lucky that i landed in a bramble bush. haha

why i dont really spend more tbh, i know it would be ruined within a year, but then most people i know would say spending over 1k on a bike is extreme "you can get a car for that blahblah blah"

My plan is to get myself a Rockrider like yourself as a treat when I complete my Access course to get back into the whole cycling thing. If I decide to then move onto bigger and better things, I'd just put decent slicks on the Rockrider and use it for the road whilst buying a decent all-mountain full sus, it's all you need really.

How are you finding the bike by the way Nix?

i think this was the moment I was completely hooked, riding in complete ignorance and cockiness. Hitting a rather big, completely blind landing gap ( much bigger than the pic makes it look - landing not on screen). Felt like the king of the world.

Been riding mountainbikes for about 6 months (affter not having ridden any since I was a kid - 15 years ago)

Yea - was well happy.. granted the photo is a bit rubbish (colours!) but at least I had proof to my mates that I did it. Nope, did that 3 or 4 times, the last of which I landed a bit squirley and I went home for a beer :D
