though a lot does depend on the build ;)

wheelkraft are meant to be extremely good. Merlincycles and CRC are good too.

Getting a roadie mechanic to build wheels can be good as they have tighter tolerances than MTB mechanics.

sweet jesus of nazarath wtf did you do to it? a guy on another forums says I should get a cheap jump bike if I was to start regularly.. how cheap can I get one?

thanks
Few people i know who jump say to start on a bmx, strong - cheap - can be light. Good way to start, this way you can determine whether you want to carry on.

Just a thought ;) its what i am going to do anyway :)

It does that.....gonna see if alpine bikes in glasgow will do it for me.

The rear hub is a bulb AFAIK(its 12mm bolt through so it cant be an Xc but could be a pro 2) and im getting a pro 2 on the front.

Got my 2" drop crown in today, all i need now is a headset, seatpost, seat, front hub. Would have helped if i hadnt spent as much money on going out.

Yeah Merlincycles are good, normally get all my wheels built by them. Handy as they are about 10-15 mins from my house :)

Got my last build done by CRC a couple of months agp. That seem to be holding up pretty well to

my friend has got back into dirt jumping recently and has just rebuilt/refurbed his jumps in his field.. I have the genesis core 1.0 and just wondering if its ok to do dirt jumping with it or will stuff break? thanks

if you use it for other things i honestly wouldnt risk damaging it , especially if your new to jumping.

buy a cheaper second bike ( singlespeed , even rigid forks if you want to save moeny) or a bmx

if you do decide to take it jumping high tyre pressure is key to not bending the rim in my experience's , other things like the forks and gear mechs will take a right hammering though

Been out on a Diamon Back Testing day today, got to run the Cross Country bikes then the downhill bikes, tried the XTS Moto, which i have to say is supurb! Then i had a go of the Sabbath, its a G-Boxx bike, what a mad setup and changing gears without pedalling.. wierd! So im pretty chuffed i got to ride a bike worth £4k+ today :D

cool sounds like fun. How was the G-Boxx bike? never rode one before. Was it heavy? Other than generally not looking too pretty and being kinda heavy G-boxx does have a rather nice points like no mechs to bash and being able to change gear when braking before a corner :)

I get to ride a £4k+ bike everyday, nice arent they :D hehe

Edit - Just had a quick look ont net and Gear box bikes are getting much light that they were when i last looked :)

One i rode was a prototype, was 48Pounds, it is heavy when you lift it, but all the weight is low and central. I was expecting it to be crap, but i was quite suprised when i done a run with it! Very nice ride. The production model is around 44Pounds IIRC. But this is without any weight saving components. Only problem is the frameset is quite expensive! As for the gear changes, its very wierd at first. But makes life so much easier! :D

Honest to god i hate second hand bike parts......i had to buy second hand with the frame and forks cause i cant afford to buy new......but for the love of god why the **** do they have to be so gay. Oh have the headset...with bits missing,i'll leaev the BB in......its ******. Just spent 10 minutes getting a truvativ giga pipe BB out my frame using mole grips! I wish people would grease stuff.

Now to fit my saints.....grease and all.

Got as much parts as i could on....need to get a headset and boxxer brake mount before i can mount shifters, brakes, grips and headlock.

Looks good Jonny. What cassette is that?

Bled my front brake today, it's made NO difference whatsoever and I still have to pull it back until the lever is parallel to the grip  It also broke one of my spokes :o

Pg990 cassette. I bought it for the shiny bits lol. :o

What front brake is it mate?

Get a new spoke put in and get the wheel tensioned promptly.....i have an atomlab trailpinp wheel sitting in my shed with 7 spokes snapped after i went for a ride with one very loose spoke. :(

It's the 203mm (:o) Juicy 3 that you can see in the pic up there. It's sorted now, so I shouldn't see any more broken ones for a while.

Hmm from what i felt of they brakes (on 3 different rockhoppers) they are really spongey to start with.

Did you use a bleed kit or just do it normally?

monkeypants said:
Proper bleed kit, I've never done it before, so I didn't know there was another way. (That doesn't mean I did it wrong).

I THINK the avids use two syringes? Push at one end and pull at the other?

Most people say to pull the bottom one back slightly,it pulls out air that can be trapped at the caliper out which wouldnt have came out otherwise.

Nah, you have to pull at each end. I tried to overfill it, that didn't work. The brakes are really good, there's just too much lever movement for me at the moment. We'll see how they are after real use.

I understand where you're coming from with the amount of lever movement on the Juicy 3's. It took me a while to get used to them but I actually prefer it now. Having more lever movement gives better modulation control, the last thing you want is to touch the brake and have it lock up. Quite often the point of locking and optimum braking is very fine, so having that control is vital.
