Folks - Anyone here been to Carbisdale or Balblair?. What are the routes like?. They look quite short in distance going by the Forestry Commission website. Heading up to Dornoch for a few days this coming weekend so was tempted to take the bike with me and have a wee explore. :)

not far from golspie m8, there are some epic runs up there :D

Rubber queens...Are they all the black chilli compound??

If not are the other compound decent?

Pretty sure you can get normal ones too, I have heard they aren't much cop without the Black Chilli but don't quote me on that!

Andi- uses them and so has weescott.

The Rubber Queens are awesome but heavy and slow rolling. I guess similar to the Fat Alberts.

I had a short ride tonight, planned to go further but had a curry for tea and felt really bloated even a couple of hours after :o

Found some nice singletrack that some other riders have obviously made, building in some small rock sections and humps/drops. Can work it into my in the week routes now :D

Ta, Golspie trails, the Wildcat ones you mean?. They look good. What sort of level are they?. Compared to say the "red" at Laggan?.

Just picked up my first MTB in years:

It's a Decathlon Rockrider 8.1, same as Nix has. From my limited time riding it, it feels great for such an inexpensive bike; I just need to get some DMR V8s and a helmet and then I'm set to go.

I'm almost settled on a Giro Xen, any other alternatives that I should consider?

Yeaaah, welcome to the club.

Hopefully you won't have such back-wheel troubles as I have. :o

Nice to see you've got some Recons instead of Toras too. The bike certainly 'feels' bigger than it looks with the extended stem and heavy handles doesn't it? I think that's what was making me think I initially had the wrong frame size! I've since actually put my saddle up higher, so just goes to show. :p

I'll get some pictures of mine up again soonish. I've since put some black Wellgo v12 copies on and got some decent lights. The new tyres I need to go and pickup as they tried to deliver whilst I was out.

What do you make of the tyres yourself?

Looks like I'm going bike shopping today! :D

Before I just go and buy myself a Pitch Pro, are they any alternatives in that price range I should be looking at?

Not unless you're after something ****tier :)
The pitch is a winner.
See if it's possible IF you can convince the bike shop to put some Rockshox Lyrics on there for you.

camber elite? slightly different setup to a pitch though....iv had both, theres not much between the two imo. depends how you ride i guess.

Turns out the bike shop near me has a Pitch in medium, it just needs putting together. He said he'll put it together today so if I can get off work in the afternoon I'll go have a look if not I'll go round tomorrow. :D

What are the Elixer 5s like on it? I wasn't that impressed with my last Juicys, are the Elixers much better or is it worth me swapping them for Hopes?
