It has broke at the crank arm? Got some piccys?

Or the Bottom Bracket axel?

Obviously this man has quads of the gods to be pushing that kind of power!

This time round I'd suggest taking it to a local bike shop since taking off a crank or a bottom bracket both require specilised tools (although they aren't really expensive).

One thing that concerns me though is that don't you normally attach the clips towards the balls of you feet? I may find this difficult as I like to ride with the pedals under my arch and ride with a fairly flat foot position. When I ride more on my toes I tend to get pain in my right knee for some reason.

Any kind of spec would be great, thank you very much!

It's very much down to the individual. There are loads of different clipless pedal systems available and many swear by their chose pedal (there can be a lot of fanboyism).

I've only used SPD and Look Keos. I like them both but I use SPDs for commuting because they are cheaper, more durable and the cleats can be recessed into the shoes making it easier to walk. You can also get double sided pedals which makes engaging much easier.

Yes, the cleat is usually attached to the ball of the foot. If this gives you pain then I'd see a Doc and get a physio referal. It's not notmal and you should really get it fixed.

Forks and headset landed - top service from Merlin.

Forks look far better made and finished nicer than my current ones.

Fingers crossed i will get some gains :)

I posted about my Freecycle Viscount bike in another thread. This is the second bike I picked up but I haven't been able to take any pics because it lives at work. I took it home and gave it a polish at the weekend, so was able to take some snaps this morning.

It's a 1966 Raleigh RSW 16, which was Raleigh's answer to the Moulton. It's a bit more basic than the Moulton, no suspension and has fat tyres instead.

It's all-original except for the tyres which were originally white. It had some very crispy white tyres but they don't make them any more. Luckily it shares tyre size with the Chopper front wheel, so I didn't have to use a 2" wide BMX tyre which would have looked out of place.

Three Sturmey Archer gears on a twist grip:

The hub is stamped 66 so it's got its original 1966 Sturmey Archer hub. I have no plans for modifying it at the moment. It's a proper rare museum piece and it would be a shame to cut it up. I'd like some white tyres as original so if some turn up on eBay then I might swap them. Could use some new rubber blocks in the pedals, otherwise it's all tickety boo.

That is wicked; I do hope it's being lined up for next year's Tweed Run.
I'm wearing a black corduroy jacket at the moment. Just need to wear the elbows out and patch them and I'm there :D

I've been looking at buying a new mountain bike for ages now but because I'm quite indecisive and also had financial commitments I've kept putting it off. Now I'm ready to part with the cash and looking at buying one of the following.

The links aren't necessarily where I'll buy from as I'll probably be going one of my local bike shops. They are bikes I have sat on and feel comfortable with, I just can't decide which is the best value for money, not necessairly which is the best bike. It will be used purely for leisure, mainly off road. Budget is around £1200.

Trek 8000 £1159

Cube LTD Race £1039

Cube XMS £1099

Trek 6700 £1199

GT Zaskar £1199

Feel free to throw in some more around the same price mark if you feel they offer better value for money.

Got to have atleast some TI on the bike. the old rotor bolts are very rusty.

Pics to follow tomorrow.

The Kashima coating is meant to be hard wearing and buttery smooth.

Iv'e been toying with the idea of the 180mm Talas for a 66 degree head angled mini DH Heckler (10mm more than recommended for the frame). Cwmcarn was a bad idea. :(
