Im after a trail/all mountain bike guys. After a large'ish' amount of travel. Quite like those 2. The Trek is nice but is it really better specced than the cube? So no one thinking the specialised?

Can people not buy Trance Xs please, you'll ruin my exclusive little club :D

a few of us on here are planning the trance as our next bikes so can't be all bad :D
hopefully placing my order next month for a 2010 Trance X3

I'd wait a bit longer if I were you, 2011 bikes will announced in the next few months, so you'll get some great deals on 2010 stuff.

You can't go wrong with Special Ed...I mean Specialized. The FSR design has been about for over 10 years. The Float fork is meant to be better than the Talas, but if you do a lot of steep climbing the Talas is very handy.

Looks like there is still plenty of material left of the pads - but it seems to be glazed over a bit. Could try roughing up the surface a bit with sandpaper.
Does your brake lever feel firm when you press it?

I just tried sanding them a bit and it didn't seem to make any difference. If I pull the bike upright onto its rear wheel, I can overcome the brakes by leaning my weight against the saddle with my knee :o

The lever seems a little bit spongy when pulled, I suppose. It's not something I would've paid any attention to if the brakes were working properly though. Still, maybe it's time to invest in a bleed kit?

How much life can I expect from a set of sintered pads before they need replacing? I'm using Hayes Stroker Trails, by the way.

Need some pedal and hydration pack advice please!!

My request for pedal advice seems to have fallen off the page so here it is again!!

I'm still using the narrow pedals that came with my MTB and it's time for some new ones. Mainly for road riding but some toepath. My feet are quite wide and i'd like pedals that give decent grip, not too deep and preferably servicable. Budget is around £30.

I know that the Wellgo MG1 pedals are well thought of so that's one option but another one that has been recommended is the Onza Hognesium which i can get for £29.

Any thoughts or other options please?

Also i need a 3l hydration pack with some storage space. I've been looking at the Camelbaks (Mule specifically) but have come across the new Osprey Raptor 14 which gets excellent reviews. Anyone have or tried the Osprey packs?

It's quite possible that they've just become clogged and dirty with brake dust. Clean the rotor and the pads. (Spit on your pads and wipe your finger over them... is your finger black ;))
I use MucOff Disc Brake Cleaner - does the job quite well and gets all the crap off the discs :)

Just did this :)

Hi guys, i was just wondering how big a job it would be to swap a 105 triple for a 105 double or compact, my understanding is i'll deffo need a new BB but i'm unsure about front derailleur and shifters,

i've not done anything like this before, but i'm not too shabby with tools.
Or would i be better to let a shop do it. would it be an expensive job at the LBS.
