Got my Hardrock Pro Disc out of retirement a couple of weeks ago, 2008 one. Would post pictures, but... it's just a hardrock, not all that exciting.

Got some Shimano M575s, finally got the ****ers bled properly today. When I bled the back one I didn't really use a spacer wide enough, so it's rubbing a little. Well, noticeably. Will this just work itself out on its own or should I rebleed them with a proper spacer?

Difference is night and day between these and my BB5s, only had a little play with them really and they're not fully bedded in but they're vastly better imo.

Got them for £20 off my mate who upgraded them in a huff when he bled them with DOT instead of mineral... £16 for some new pads and some mineral fluid later and they're a bargain imo.

You could try and push the pistons back in using the old pads + flat blade screwdriver to give you the proper space for the disc.

I'd have thought the dot fluid wouldn't be very nice to the seals in the shimano brakes.

I did give it a go, pretty much got them what appears all the way in but still really tight. I'll ride it tomorrow and see how it is otherwise I'll give them some proper muscle :D

I'll see how I go with the seals, seem ok but only had a trundle around. They were so cheap I figured it was worth it, got a mate who works in a bike shop so if they've been damaged he'll be able to sort it cheap/free.

try loosening the caliper-frame/bracket bolts just so the caliper can move then pull the brake lever, this should (but not always) align the caliper/pads to the disc. then gently and evenly bit by bit tighten up the caliper bolts. hopefully that'll atleast get the caliper in the right position.

it will rub whenever you've moved the disc (removed wheel etc) or changed the position of the caliper, the pads and disc need to bed into each other then after a few rides the rubbing should subside. it'll rub more after a long brake but that's just heat expanding everything so don't be dis-heartened if it sounds worse for a bit.

if still bad go back to first paragraph and visually check there's even space either side of the pads and disc, if not re-do it.

My new shiney bits, crankset and pedals :)

Been lurking around this thread since I got out my bike again earlier in the year.

Thought I'd drop this question in here...

I spend most of the time in the saddle when I'm riding (mostly over Cannock Chase), but my hamstrings seem to do most of the work. I rarely, if ever, feel any burn in my quads.
Could this be a bike size or seat height issue, or riding style?

I'm riding an old Saracen D-Tox 2000, I think the frame size is 18". I'm just over 6'3"

Dear lord I'm such a poof, you can clearly tell I don't work with my hands for a living.
I was following weescott's "How to mount a non-UST tyre tublessly on a UST rim" guide yesterday and got it sorted.

My fingers however are in such pain! Ive obviously botched it a few times until I finally got the technique down.
I was pulling and yanking at sticky rubber tyres for hours yesterday and it feels like I have no skin left on my thumbs, index and middle fingers.

These hands are clearly only meant to pound a Keyboard and shuffle a Mouse about!

It could be all of the above, it's difficult to tell.
Have you tried lowering your seat perhaps?

Can anyone help with a slight problem I'm having. The gear changes on my bike seem to be slightly off, when I change gear it always makes a racket then jumps to the next gear  it's really annoying me now and as I know nothing about bikes I have no idea how to fix this.

It's only a cheapish Apollo from Halfords as I needed something inexpensive till I got used to riding again before getting something good.

Is this at the front or the back?

If it's at the rear then there should be a barrel adjuster where the cable enters the derailleur. Turn the bike over (or put it in a stand) and hand crank the pedals whilst changing gear up and down. Turn the barrel adjuster and see if it improves (only turn it by a quarter at a time at most).

Gears are always a tricky one as there are varying ways of adjustment, this might be worth a read http://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html

What type of shifter/dérailleur combo do you have?
