Ha I usually just go for a ride applying and releasing the brakes without coming to a complete stop to get them nice and hot, its easier if you have a hill to ride down but its so flat near my house I have to go for a long ride to get them warm :(

On my current kevlar pads it said to quench them with water after bedding them in, which I have never done before, but I did as it said and to be honest don't know if it made any difference at all! There must be a reason they say to do it though.

The packaging says something about if the water fizzles and steams like it's boiling then the brakes have got to a high enough temperature and you can stop. I think it's just an indicator to see if it's done.

I forgot this step and just grabbed the disc with my hand, that sucked :(
 
My organic Superstar pads said the same, ride around and do 10-20 stops without locking up the wheel, then spray water on them. It said if it steams/hisses then it's done, if it doesn't then do it again but more until they get hot enough.
 
You shouldn't be putting water on your disc after a long run as it can warp the disc. Just do your normal run and they should bed in, in no time. That's what I do anyway.

Where do you ride locally around York? Only thing i normally ride around here is Skipwith common or the Selby to York sustrans trail. Wanting to know if there is anywhere local to ride? need something to do tomoz other than just go Dalby.
 
Went to hamsterley forest yesterday morning, did about 17 miles (felt like about 12 of that was uphill!) , got lost a few times but had a bit of fun. Started on the black route, think we went on the red for a bit, then the blue, then the red again & found a great little bit on the red that looked pretty new, loads of big rocks, berms, dips and jumps. Had a look on youtube to try & see what it was & the only thing I can find is 'Area 13' which looks a bit like what we were on but definitely not the same. There was one bit with a massive slab of rock and smaller bits stood up round it (mini stonehenge), hen more sweeping corners & drop offs. It went from the open into the forest on a narrow gravel singletrack (with more berms to keep the speed up) and then out onto a fire road. It was good fun, but I can't find anything about it & probably couldn't find it again!!

Epping

Planning on going for a trundle at Epping tomorrow, but confused... Where do I go?

Looking around it seems that some people meet at Bury Road car park for organised rides so I presume that's as good a place as any, some others meet at High Beach. These two places are miles away and from Google Maps seem like they're in two distinct areas.

Where's the best place to go? I'm semi-competent but out of shape and just started riding singlespeed, my girlfriend's very new to it, so only want easy stuff - anyone know a good easy starting point? I don't mind ploughing/walking up hills, just looking for nice relatively easy singletrack or wide tracks or paths or a mix of anything really :)
