So I had a look on Google Maps and other places for somewhere to take the bike. Somewhere off-road for a bit of fun and I managed to find somewhere about 5 miles from me - Some hill land with an old right of way which went on for about 5 miles before it reached road again. Basically it was 5 miles of this -

It was practically ALL uphill on the off-road section (circa 500ft climb) with the downhill being on the road section after it so it was tough going.... All in all, it was just short of 25 mile round trip (24.8) which is by far the most I have done in one go....


And yes, I attempted to cross that stream on the bike not quite realising it went upto my ankles even on the bike :o. Cue 2 sodden feet for the rest of the day. I didn't bother attempting the others :o

And to top it off, it started lashing it down with rain on part of the ride... What part? Well obviously it had to be while I was on the hard off-road part on top of a 900ft hill... Stopped raining in time for me to hit tarmac again :rolleyes: I swear someone up there don't like me :(


Edit: May I add, even when it started lashing down with rain I still enjoyed it :D

Looks Like Rooley Moor Road from Rochdale into the back of Lee Quarry and Crag Quarry ? or Max and Paddys Road to No Where ?
 
Na, a place called Muirshiel Country Park in Scotland - Google Maps Link

You can see the trail I used by going left from the car park on the road then keeping right as it splits before the road on GMaps disappears and then, by looking closely, you can follow the trail all the way up until the light color becomes dark and, just above the river that fills the triangular-ish shaped reservoir you go right until you meet the road.

Of course, I did it the other way and its all bloody well uphill :(


One thing I did notice is that the wooded areas immediately to the North and South of the carpark is filled with trails for walkers which cut through the woods and is maintained by the park service. A quick look revealed what might be some nice, albeit short-ish, trails that would be pretty good for MTB.

I guess if I go midweek it would be empty of ramblers so I shouldnt have a problem.... Sod biking it to the park tho, I will be taking the car and going to the carpark :p

I haven’t been on the bike since the upgrade. I’d expect crisper shifts, but I doubt there’s much different between 11t and 13t. I’ll update you next week though.

just up the road from me (prestwick)! Never even knew it was there! Good find!
 
Wouldn't take you long to get there by car. Might be worth a look if you have a free day especially round that wooded area where there are trails already albeit for walkers.... The problem I have is chucking the bike back in the car when its manky. I can fit it in with the back seats down if I remove the front wheel and lower the saddle right down

Oh momma :D Should look relatively similar to original photo with flow rims and other red kit.
 
Transitions do seem to last. I've got friends who have been beating up bottlerockets and blindsides for a few years and they keep on ticking.
 
That is a lovely transition, I'd love a bottlerocket but can't afford it:(

It does indeed look like a zesty...at least the transition doesn't route the gear cable a totally retarded way.
 
Dog almost got mullered. Wonder what sort of tyres you're pick for a race like that as a typical DH tyre would be crap, i would guess somekind of hardpack tyre.
