Hmm, at the risk of the specialized boys in here getting a boner at me recommending a Specialized bike (again) … I would definitely recommend you look into a Specialized that suits your budget.

All Specialized frames come with a lifetime warranty, so you will not have to worry about the bike failing on you. They also have a very wide variety of bikes, to suit all riding styles and budgets.

Hey just after some advice.

Just bought my lad a bike off the bay (Raleigh Max 6 Speed 20") and it's got the twisty grip gears.

They are a bit scuffed at the end and ideally id like to replace both grips. Is this easily done with the twisty grip gear system thingy?

What about Kona? They used to do a HT with a heavier frame although I am not sure what they do now.

The lifetime warranty is a good shout!

Anyone here owned an EPX Terrashark?

The lower end Specialized hardtails like the Hardrock all have a structural limit of 300lbs which is circa 21 stone although that includes any bags and gear you are carrying.

Depends what model they are, but most twist-shift systems are separate from the actual rubber handlebar grips - in which case it's very easy to change.

Can you post a pic?

Kona is generally sh!t, however their latest DH bike seems to have shaken their image somewhat. I'd still just go big S

XPS Terrashark.... sounds like something Halfords would sell "for commuters who might want to take it in dirt over weekend"

Edit, my god man... just look at the bl00dy thing!

Cool, cheers. Did you get it direct from Orange then? Were the forks part of the upgrade package?

Yes the forks are the 32 Talas version which means I can adjust the travel from 110mm to 140mm. Ideal for the climbs. Very good forks but extremely costly.

You can spec the bike if you visit there website, are you thinking of one yourself?

I bought one but had some meh components on it, got in a money rut and had to sell it so I couldnt upgrade it. My uncle had one too with XT full set, Hope 4 pots and a set of Rockshox Psylo 120's and an early Fox rear air shock.

It was an amazing bike, really really light, felt agile without too much flex and made you feel like you were flying along at warpspeed lol. I put mine through wales, (breacon area), Glentress in the snow, and some other parts of Scotland around the Edinburgh areas. (Pentlands, 3 peaks. Think they were the east peak, west peak and Scalds Law peak, can not rightly remember!)

Edit: It does suffer from peddle bob though.

Yeah I've been pondering a Five for a while now, it's one of many options. I keep changing my mind! If I went with the Five then I'd likely just buy the frame then build it up - just wasn't aware you could fiddle the spec of the full bike if you bought direct from Orange.

At the moment due to lack of funds (I may have to live on my own for a year which is costly) I'm thinking about getting a Santa Cruz Superlight frame and just shifting all the bits off my current hardtail onto it.
