I got another ****ing flat yesterday. Only just repaired the other two! The inner tube has split in a different point on the seam (again). I can't see how it could be wrong pressure either as I've deliberately not pumped it up too much.

I gave up in the end and popped to a LBS for a Raleigh inner-tube and some rim-tape. Fixed the wheel (again) at work. If I get another flat I am going to just buy some new tyres.

I've checked and rechecked the tyre and rim, can't find any sharps.

Getting rather annoying though! Barely had the bike over a week and I've had three punctures! I've not even been riding any trails, this is just commuting to work and the local rugby club!

For some reason I had more flats from riding on the road that I did riding trails!

I switched tyres to Schwalbes and inner tubes to Contis though and didn't have a problem after that.

I'd have thought snake bite punctures would be more commonplace if you are running low PSI, while out on the trails (roots/rocks/sudden impacts?)

I got some Schwalbe Muddy Mary tyres yesterday, cant wait to try them out as they look gripy as hell.
It's got some new compound type valled Vertstar, which is essentially a Downhill specific compound with rolling base layer, super-soft center and ultra-soft Shoulders.
Maxxis does this too, however I found that the super soft nobs tear off. This new Schwalbe is supposed to notdo that .. plus its a tad cheaper than MAxxis, so I thought I'd give it a go

I too had a lot of punctures when i was running on roads and hardpack paths more, maybe 1 or 2 punctures a week.

I changed to a more suitable road tyre and just swap tyres when going off road, i also ran max PSI when on the roads, im a heavy bugger so it felt just right.....for example i run about 45psi when off road, and about 65psi when on road.

Since making the changes i have had 1 puncture.

Thats seriously unlucky mate!

I tend to find that any splits in an inner tube seam means its bin fodder - you do get it happen from time to time - dont know whether its age that causes it or just rubbish glue!

On the front of my commuter MTB i'm currently running a Specialized Nimbus, 1.5" with Armadillo puncture protection - Don't think I've had a single puncture in that tyre yet. (Probs done ~500-800 miles on it)

My tyres are rated for 110 psi, what pressure do you think I should run them at given that I weigh 20stone? I currently run them at 90 PSI but the rear feels/looks soft. Am I safe to run 110psi then put 20stone of weight on them?

Christ ... are you on a mountain bike, or a roadbike?

I don’t know much about road tyre pressure, as I commute on a MTB @ 35PSI.
My AM bike and DH bike both run about 28 PSI.

To me it sounds like you will explode, but it’s possibly best to check with the lycra crowd in the Road Bike essentials thread 

110psi will be fine. I've run the ones on my road bike (tubs) at over 120psi as I'm also a fat knacker.

Ive Just recieved a letter regarding my insurance renewal today. They will only insure me up to £1k per bike. I have 3.

This is oviously becasue I claimed last october and got the £3k Specialized Epic Evo plus extra's, totaling nearly £4k.
Does this sound right? or alittle unfair. As the M&S representitive asked me what sort of security I have. I said a ground anchor and several good motorcycle chains in the garage.

As all the way through the process I kept asking M&S what will happen to my premium. They clearly said nothing would happen. If I knew my New Spesh Epic would only be insured for £1k I wouldnt of got the extras up to £4k. Whats the point having a very expensive bike if its only insured up to £1k?

they are a law unto themselves! call them up and asked them to insure the items specifically and give them the values you want - it's likely they will increase your premiums slightly but they should still be happy to cover them.

If not go elsewhere!!

Have you tried getting a new quote online?

I know a lot of peoples did this when they got really high renewals, might help you too.

Tried the M&S site - last page of the quote said "we can not provide you insurance"

I'll have to spend more time looking around or wait for the rest of the renewal paperwork to come through.
