I would keep the bell! But get rid of the special disc behind the cassette.

How do you remove that? My Pitch had one too and it annoyed the hell out of me.

Also, the brakes need bleeding out of the box - this appears to be a common problem, should I demand the shop do it or just suck it up and get a £12 bleed kit?

tap the plastic lugs that hold the spokes with a flat blade screw driver
you will find the plastic is quite brittle

wheel reflectors can be taken off easy too, just turn the whole thing 90 degrees and the plastic lug will snap off

Whip the cassette off if you have the locking tool/chain whip, if not, get the wire cutters out and snip away at it.

Nice looking bike there Kona! :)

Just a quick question for you guys.. How much do you reckon a year old Rockhopper Pro 2010 is worth? Don't want the insurance company to rip me off as I want to get as much as possible off them to put towards a new bike! I'm going to add the cost of brand new M4s and saddle to the price too.

Most cycles insurance companies do new for old unless it's over 3 years old, then it's 10% per year, so if it's 4 years old, 40% rather than 10, presumably home contents insurance is the same.

Pick 3 or 4 from different sites (CRC etc) and average the price out, if they try and offer you something below the spec. of your original bike, don't accept.

It wasn't on cycle insurance, I'm claiming it on my home insurance as they took it when they broke into my house. I assume that will make a difference to how they handle it? Never had anything stolen before or had to make a claim!

The disc behind the casette is to protect the spokes should the chain drop off the big ring..but with a correctly setup rear mech it shouldnt be an issue, ive never had a chain fall off it yet.

should make no difference claiming on house insurance - most current policies are new for old, as said above. If you still have the receipt/invoice plus the upgrades forward that to them and accept nothing less.

Who's the home insurance with?

Thats good to know, its with More Than. I read some good reviews for them for claiming so it should be OK. Just had one piece of good news at least, my car has been found in one piece! :)

Cool, sounds good

2 Laps of Cwmcarn XC this afternoon. I took a half day and decided to shred some trails. 1st lap was trying to beat my personal best which is about 55mins. 2nd lap I had to ease off as I came off, and second I'm out tomorrow with a proper XC racer around Bristol.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/86839859

Lap times:
1st Lap: 54.29
2nd Lap: 59.12

Small discrepancy due to finishing in the car park and resetting the Garmin.
Its a shame they have half a dozen stiles which you have to stop and squeeze by. would have been a little quicker.
