No problem - just post back if you have trouble :)

The brakes arrived yesterday, picked them up today and all fitted and working a treat - i have a slight problem in that one of the clamps has cracked but speaking with the store about that and if any dispute can see CRC sell them cheap enough!

The brakes themselves are amazing, far far better than my old cable discs and i have had to adjust the front shock to stiffen it up as there is so much more braking power - really really pleased with them and they look cool too!!

Thanks for all your help!

Next on the list is a new cassette as its damaged and then the crankset & bb need doing before moving onto some decent shocks. Long term i do want a new bike but SWMBO has vetoed that one for the time being...

Hey guys, can anyone advise me on my apparent brake issue?

My old Enduro had Hope M4s fitted by the LBS and they always felt great and stopped well. My current Stumpjumper has Avid Juicy Sevens, and I just cant get them feeling as good.

I've set the reach as per the book, and the hand position is comfortable and well spaced from the bars. Under breaking it feels as if most of the travel is doing nothing up until the last quartile, when all the breaking force comes in.

Is the pad contact wheel supposed to fix this? I've tried turning it but with no discernible difference. How much range does the thing have? I've got a few turns in either direction.

Thanks!

Yeah the pad contact should fix it. On my Codes it varies from lever bottoming out on the bars to brakes working within half an inche of lever pull.

Where he brakes new as it sounds like the need bleeding. When theres air in the system the lever takes longer to deliver the power. When my Codes have a lot of air in the system the the pad contack adjuster has little to no effect

do any of you guys use the garmin edge 500 ?
i've been using endomondo on my phone while it's good for tracking distance and route it's crap for tracking ascends and descends .
is the garmin edge any good for this type of tracking and how long does the battery last? is there a better alternative for £200?

EDIT; can you upload the workouts to endomondo?

I use a Garmin Edge 500 and it's one of the best bike purchases I've bought.
The battery last for more than 10 days (4-5 hours riding each day) and it logs pretty much everything you need. Also, being ANT+ it can link up with with a cadence sensor, heart rate monitor and a power meter.

A log of the OcUK MTB meet up today : http://connect.garmin.com/activity/97910874

Anything better for £200, I don't think so.
It's compact, the battery lasts forever, fully customizable screens, excellent data logging and course route maps to follow whilst you ride :)

You can export the routes to a GPX file which you then upload to endomondo.
For example - the above route exported and added to my endomondo account : http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/15684588

Buy it from handtec - it's cheaper
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/2337/garmin-edge-500-heart-rate-monitor---speed-cadence

It logs speed without the cadence sensor using GPS, but it's less accurate when it loses a signal under heavy trees etc.. Mostly it's works great though.
It's not essential for MTB'ing - more for road biking to log cadence.

If you do fit it then don't worry about it falling off. I've done DH courses with it on and it's not once caused problems.

cool and thanks for the link saves me a bit of money. :)
one last question how easy is it to get off the bike mount? i'm thinking i will probably take it off every day to upload.

Cool, I'll have another play with it tomorrow. I bought the bike second hand, its an '07 model, that as far as I can see in the history I got with it there's only ever been new pads fitted, never bled.

I was given the bleed kit with the bike, so can do that if need be.

Thanks for your reply.

100% agree - superb - i love mine.

that review was great, really in depth. another question what happens if you lose the gps signal?
does it stop tracking or does it carry on tracking when you get the signal back.
also is there a manual pause never really liked the auto pause.

manual pause if you want - not a problem.

I've never had mine lose signal at all. Once it locks on it's great.

If the GPS signal drops then it beeps to tell you it's paused. It'll beep again when GPS is found again and automatically start recording. It's seamless and from my experience rarely drops for more than a couple of seconds anyway.

The auto pause function has 3 settings.

1: Off
2: On - when you stop moving the timer automatically stops. When you start moving again it auto starts up. Device beeps to confirm both.
3: Custom Speed - the timer stops when you drop below a custom speed and starts again when you go over the custom speed.

how trust worthy is the auto pause in your experience?
i don't want to be losing data due to the auto pause.
