Hi guys,

Just got a quick question. I ordered some new brake cables yesterday, i'm gonna use the outers that are already on the bike. Do I need to grease/lube the cables before putting them in the outers or should they be ok?

Cheers

Always greese them up. Keep them running better and longer.

Recommend only using a teflon based greese tho. Something decent like the finishline ones.

Depends what sort of cables and outers you have, if there teflon coated ones you dont use any lube.

Got Monday and Tuesday off next week so planning on going to Llandegla get round the black then blue route.

Some great trails at the Forest of Dean, fairly new Verderers trail sections:
I was there last weekend! Love the new Verderers trail especially the last section. Flowly, fast and air! ;)

Thinking of heading to the Peak District for a week next week, can anyone recommend trails / places to ride please? Shall be taking the Intense. So it doesn't HAVE TO BE uphill friendly. :D

You bugger!:p

Thinking about getting a better/more comfy seat. Is there owt for £10-£15 anywhere or will I have to shell out loads.

I rode the mbr trail at Coed y Brenin today (currently on holiday in North Wales), unfortunately part of the end was rerouted due to logging, meaning you had to do the long fireroad climb to the Beginning of the End part.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it, it was virtually deserted too.

The trail uses parts of the red and black routes, and on the whole was pretty fast and flowy, most of the climbs were between trail sections, so it meant once you got to a section it was pretty full on until you got squirted out at the end. The very first section from the visitor center was ace if you're into powering through flat/up rocky single track, there's also a new pump/jump/berm section which was great fun.

I wish there was more slow, technical black parts (I love trails like Razor Rock at Innerleithen) maybe I need to go back and do a custom route integrating parts of the Dragon's Teeth trail? I thought the mbr route was a pretty easy red, similar to what you'd expect at Dalby. The 'beginning of the end' section was very good, fast, with a few kickers and whoops made from stone. 'False teeth' was also more like it, fast switchback descent with plenty of off-camber drops.

This is my first time riding in Wales and Coed y Brenin has a really nice feel about it probably due to the setting, it doesn't feel like you climb much vertical height really (although there are sustained descents) as the setting is within a valley most of the time, there are many stream crossings, small waterfalls and bridges, even though you're on man made trailis it really feels like you're seeing exactly what the natural terrain of North Wales is like.

Unfortunately the 2 week stay in North Wales may be cut short any day due to an ill family member but I'm hopefully going to give Penmachno a crack soon (as per weescott's recommendation) and maybe Snowdon; climbing the Llanberis path, descend via Ranger Path then back to Llanberis via the Telegraph bridleway.

Also, I've had a couple of rides on the CCDB now and I'm really liking it, amazingly it seems to bob less when pedalling up compared to the rp23 and monarch plus (running about 30% sag), it's extremely controlled when climbing and seems to stick to the ground. I hit a few drop offs today too and it feels very controlled in the mid-stroke, if I came close to bottoming out then I didn't notice. Not adjusted any of the settings yet as it feels pretty good at the moment, I will experiment with lsc/lsr first. I've also put my forks back to recommended settings and added 10 psi as I found that I needed them to sit a little higher in their travel due to the new shock. It needs a ti spring though, if anyone knows of any manufacturers that makes a 2" 600lb one please let me know :p

The long fire road climb up to Beginning Of The End is the normal route.

Penmachno is awesome - ride it !!
We did the Snowdon Llanberis path up and Ranger Path down. The conditions were pretty bad which didn't help but generally the Ranger path is quite steep and very rocky ;)

Sounds like its worth a trip over there. Was meant to be climbing Snowdon last week but my bout of man flu made me postpone it for a few weeks, might have to turn the walk into a weekend and take my bike over too!

Street, dropped you an email to your msn address! :)

Sorry, didn't spot it earlier, just replied now!

By road? Its all flat! Decent padded shorts will help.

Yeah but the hills... :( :p

You might be lucky and get a 2nd hand Charge Spoon for £15. Otherwise you will have to shell out loads.

Just had a look on eBay at it looks exactly like my seat lol, which is uncomfortable.

I think I need something like this:

You mean the hills that are either sides of the A6... :p Shining Cliff has some steep climbs.

Anyway, get measured for a seat from your LBS and get some decent padded shorts. You'll feel less like you've been raped.
