Mines added on my house insurance. I had to pay about an extra £100 to get it insured for £2.5k both inside and away from home. Made sure I had it covered properly this time as my last bike got stolen, wasn't specified and I only got £500 back off the insurance company for it!

Hey guys

My new bike finally got delivered the chain just snapped on my after 10 seconds of riding it down my road?!?!

When it arrived i put pedals on, straightened handle bars, altered high of seat and went over everything checking it all worked and nothing was loose. I went outside and cycled a couple of car lengths and changed the back gears to a higher one, as soon as i stood up and put pressure it snapped, bending one of the link arms things outwards, its the link right next to the joining one. I'm new to biking so bare with my terminology :)

Just wondering what the hecks happened and if its some thing i have done?

cheers

Commencal Ramones 3, Rang Merlin cycles and the guy says he will send me a link... not got a tool to do the job though... bit miffed off if im honest!

Depending on where/how it snapped and what type of link he's sending, you might not need a chain tool.

If it turns out that you do need a tool, ask if they'll pay for a local bike shop to sort it for you.

Don't blame you for being miffed. Do you have a Merlin Cycles near you?
I'd be wanting them to sort it out on the spot!!

I know it's only a chain, but it shouldn't snap. They should at least send you a new chain, not a link.

Really like those bikes, great choice for a hardtail :)

Unlucky with the chain though.
To be honest unless Merlin messed up the tensioning big time (which is unlikely) it must have just been a dodgy link.
Did it "feel" ok when you were cycling?

EDIT: Agree with the above, a new chain should be sent out, not just a link

I literately rode for 20 seconds and only just put my full weight onto the peddles when it snapped.

Went to the local bike shop and they got out a chain like mine and went through how to fix it step by step, couldn't of asked for more friendly service! Its unfortunate that i had to buy a bike online instead of in their shop.

So its all fixed and seems to be worked fine, ill go out and test it!

As for the rest of the bike im SUPER happy and so glad i didn't go for a hardrock as i think im gonna have much more fun on this bike! :D

Hello bike fans.

Ive set myself a list of goals to achieve this year, One of them is to complete the woking bikeathon. I rode to school every day for about 4 years when I was 14-18 that was about 6/7 years ago and havnt really cycled out on the road since.

I do the odd bike work in the gym but ofcourse its not the same.

I need a new bike, that doesn't cost the earth but at the same time isnt rubbish.

What can you suggest for £200 or is that setting the price to low? I am a flexable on the amount to a certain extent.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

£200 is too low for a new bike, but it wont be too hard to find a decent second hand bike for not much more than that.

Is it road riding you will be doing?

The only 2 bikes Ive ever owned have been halfords...which goes someway to showing why I need help! :D Must admit I hadnt thought of the 2nd hand market.

Yes it will be road riding :)

Come over to the road bike thread and ask in there.

Theres not much use in us recommending a bike though if you'll be buying second hand. The best thing to do is find out what is available locally on ebay/gumtree/paper/etc and ask people's opinions of it.

Seems to be all sorted now, very pleased and the little test ride i did put a big smile on my face cant wait to take it out properly!

since we do a lot of custom builds in the shop i ll probably be posting in the pic thread a lot, in the workshop atm we have a BH womans road build for Scottish Duathlon champ Katrina, we have a nice Kinesis Ti road bike, a Fondriest carbon road bike, Ibis bike in orange plus more i probably cant think of.

Pics tomorro night i think...

Don't get many good builds in the shop then :p

Yeah, it has been quite dry for a few days now. That was the best part of the trail! Downhill two big berms into two small ladder jumps. :o

That was the first time I've been down there to be honest. I was quite impressed with the length of the trail, although shame there isnt a little more downhill or any bigger jumps.

Ah really, will do in future :)

The bit you mention is not the unfinished section, it's the more undulating NS style, not the one with the two big berms which is right at the start of the trail and I agree a lovely corner or two.

It's a great trail for fitness, as it can be done out of the saddle at full pedal in around 12-13 mins. But yeah... Lack of space for any decent downhill lines. I have discovered one or two sweet lines in Croft Woods though, which I'd be happy to show you round some time if our paths ever cross :)

My new front wheel should arrive today (for the Mega) so it will get a good test run up at Golspie this weekend.
Nothing too fancy. Superstar AM490 RIM, Sapim race spokes, Superstar Switch Evo hub 9mm in (Gold)
Going from a bog standard QR front so it's a nice little upgrade

So all my mates have pulled out of Cwmcarn tomorrow :(

Do I go it alone (~ 2hr drive each way) since the weather's favourable, or wait even longer to break in the Tracer?
