I have one, it's very boring. I would think you're much more likely to use your bike outside rather than stuck to one of those.

Also, it wont work well with a knobbly tyre. You can get tyres specifically for turbo trainers (like this)

I have had a trainer before, there rubbish really.

Better to get out, at least then if you go for a ride you cant give up half way you still have to ride back, its all too easy on a trainer to just quit. There so boring as well.

I thought as much. I might give it a miss then, just wanted to get some use out of my bike and try and get fit. The problem with where I live in Rossendale is that the only straight bit of ground anywhere is the 3 meter path between my front door and gate lol. Not really ideal for just going for a lesurly ride to get fit.

As I've recently found out, it's something like this:
Single ring up front: As short as you can get them
Double ring: Best to get a med cage
Triple: Couldget away with a med, but most people seem to advise on getting a long cage mech

Thanks for that, I was reading online too about this just now and it mirrors pretty much the same.

I could get a medium but would have to be careful shifting into certain combinations. I would rather not have to worry about gear limitations so I guess long cage is the safe bet.

Could this be the ultimate niche bike?

Bamboo lefty belt-drive drop bar fat bike :D

You forgot "singlespeed" as well Luncheon, Id love one though!
Though not to "do a bit of DH" on, it will break in about... 10 seconds... if that :p

ps: I have a long cage Sram XX mech for sale if you want it - £80 and its yours musty.

Thats an interesting offer mate, but I think my current set up is only 9sp.

Again forgive my ignorance but that would not work with my set up?
How "used" is it?

Ah, soryr missed that you have 9spd - it wont work.
For what its worth, its in good condition, but pointless for you.

Thanks for the offer though mate, someone should snap it up at that price!

Any other bits going cheap though? Wouldnt mind a few nicer parts for my rather average bike.... :( poor me :)

I missed your original post on what you ride - just re-read :p
Erm at the risk of once again sounding like a snob (again), save your cash for a complete replacement at some point in the future, instead of putting expensive bits on it.

Always have an assortment of bits laying about, just sometimes sell them when they start to accumulate. I've recently cleared a buch of stuff out though, so only a Renthal fatbar (38mm rise) and the SRam XX mech doing nothing at the moment.

Was lucky enough recently when I bought - brand new - x9 shifter (9 spd), x9 shifter (10 spd), x 0 shifter (10 spd), x0 rear mech (10 spd), x9 rear mech (9 spd) all for £120 :D
All the ones surplus to requirements have gone to good homes though.

Could be very interested in the wheels if they'd fit my Boardman FS, sure it's 15mm maxle at the front and 12mm at the rear?

Also, a mate could be interested in fork and/or dropper post. ;)
