Have you had any new or interesting crashes/offs due to the SPD's? I'm thinking about trying them, but the thing worrying me is coming off and me being stuck to my bike!

Most people have a few offs when they first start using them. A lot of the time it's when you try and stop so you're not going fast anyway. You either forget to unclip, or you stop, unclip right foot....and fall to the left :(

You'll soon get used to it tho and do it without thinking. Most of the time, if i lose grip on a corner or something, i can get my foot out quick enough to dab it down before i fall. I still have the occasional tumble though.

edit: i only have an xc bike just now, so i'm not doing any DH type stuff with clipless

When I have crashed with SPD's on and gone OTB the bike has unclipped and flown off down the trail, wouldn't worry about it.

Why do you want travel insurance in the uk? We have the NHS!

Do you mean you want your bike insured?

NHS don't cover you if you end up liable for hitting another cyclist / walker who decides to sue for damages :)

Travel insurance doesn't just cover medical costs :)

Supercow - I rode Woburn once on a bmx !- it was pretty sandy and so actually pretty hard I thought (my usual trails were smooth concrete like hard packed chalk)

although I am starting to get the hang of jumps on a mtb - think I can kiss goodbye getting flat tables back again though sadface

Time to nail those can-cans then ! :D

Woburn Sands = Milton Keynes?

Edit: Looks good!! Cow, wanna teach me to jump ? :D

Very close to Milton Keynes, town just outside.
Haha, it's all well and good over baby jumps... need to learn how to scale! Guess moarr ballz is what's needed.

Not yet, though had a close a couple of close calls, mostly to do with stopping, unclipping one side and leaning towards the other :D

I fell off doing about 1mph; it was dark and I was slowing down, didnt clip out in time and just so happened to land on some broken glass. Quick trip to A&E for some stitches and I was fine.

But why pay for a full travel insurance policy? Why not just get liability cover?

I've not come off mine yet, been using them for a good 4/5 months. Nearly come off a couple of times when i've been stopping. When i've nearly come of my bike i've always been able to clip out straight away without much thought

Oh look i'm back again for some basic advice

Right the drivetrain on my Norco is starting to get a bit rough, it sticks at shifting up and down the block and despite frequent chain cleaning and lubing, well it's **** lets just say

Now i was perusing Chain reaction the other day as you do, and spotted some 10 speed gubbins, and thought mhmmmm that would be nice

As i run with a single chainring at the front (think it's 32, might be a little bigger) i technically only have 8 gears, and with the shift sticking, sometimes i only have 4-5

so, question 1 would be, will a 10 speed cassette fit in the spacing for an 8 speed cassette (i know a 9 speed will due to the narrow spacing, but a 10 speed? just how narrow is it lol)

and 2 does this look like an adequate shopping list, and am i missing anything?

Also, will i need to buy a fancy slimline front chainring? if such a beast exists?

You need a right-hand shifter, the one you linked is left-hand.
Other than that, you've got everything covered. I suspect you would probably need a new chainring, i know that you can fit a 10speed chain onto a 9speed chainring but i think an 8speed ring might be too wide. Somebody else might be able to confirm that.

edit: i dont think it's actually worth switching to 10speed. you can get an 11-34 8speed cassette which would give you pretty much the same top and bottom gears as the 10speed you're looking at (but obviously with a couple less options in between)

nope i spotted the ISpec design and the normal one is on the same page, you just have to select the correct one on the sales bobbit

I run with Avid Juicy 3's for now, (again they are utter ****) and will prolly be swapped for some tasty old school Hope mini's at some point :D
