Enduring the weather, but enjoying the race, ~75miles into the 100.

I think I understand why you're able to pedal all those long miles - you're a ginger aren't you?

Not having the weight of a soul dragging you down must help an awful amount, you should be ashamed of competing against regular humans.

What are big wheel mountain bikes with 29" rear rims like?
Seen some in a shop - think they're made by a derby company i think.

I have a gary fisher 29er. I love it, it really suits my riding style.

A quick summary of big wheels-
Pros:
They roll faster
They can roll over bigger obstacles than 26inch wheels can.

Cons:
Bigger, heavier wheels are slower to accelerate
It's slower to turn the big wheels, so twisty stuff is harder.

Generally, if you have the arm strength to muscle the wheels around, then you'd be better off on the bigger wheels. They dont suit everyone though, you really need to try them and see what you think.

Well, someone is probably coming to buy my Covert and forks tomorrow .. its stripped down, still looking badass, i better wind up with a TRc after this :p

Its a bit too much bike for what I ride, I want to save weight but keep some aspects of the geo plus a low bb like my ht, so I'm hopefully replacing it with a Blur TRc or Transition Bandit.

I assume the buyer bailed before seeing the bike?

Unlucky mate

EDIT: On a side note, a new 50mm Warhead stem and 760mm wide 20mm rise Warhead bars on the Mega :)
It's now looking more DH orientated than ever...
All set for the nevis range next Sunday

Going to Antur Stiniog on thursday, has anyone been and I assume its all rideable on an AM bike ?

Cheers

I went a few weeks ago. Theres 3 runs open, a blue, red and black. All are rideable on an AM bike. They just get steeper and rockier as you go round the gradings as you would expect. Very a very well run uplift. Have fun :)

Cheers for the input.

Does anyone else have some more input? :)

I'm led to believe all the trails are now open, various helmet cam runs are cropping up online of the last black run. Not sure if the large drops are open yet though.

Quick summary for YorkshirePad26;

The blue trail is fast and flowy with a lot of nicely built berms, there's a few rocky features thrown in but it's nothing overly challenging.

The red is steeper than the blue with some gnarlier rock sections and small drops/jumps, the red and the blue merge together and share the last third of the trail. Seems to be the most used trail there.

The first black trail, black powder, is steeper again and has some larger rollable jumps. The rock sections are very long with rocks and boulders about as big as your head. It is a very fast and gnarly trail.

The second black, Y Du, looks to have even bigger drops and jumps and is again steeper and faster than Black powder. There are some pretty huge drops, step downs and a decent sized double towards the end of the track but it wasn't open whilst I was there.

You can easily get 10+ runs in without even trying. Helmet cam vids really don't do the place justice, the trails are physically demanding and you'll be hanging on to your bike for dear life on your last runs. Awesome place but I've been twice and on both occasions it's ****ed it down!

I'm gunna be booking it again when I get paid next week! :)

Nope! :p Drove 2 hrs to see it but decided not to have it despite it being exactly as described :p Weird. No matter as someone 30 mins away called up shortly after and came and bought frame and fork :) result. Just built my hardtail up with the parts and it's looking mean now.

If anyone has a medium Blur TRc or Bandit for sale please let me know :D

If he came to your home address be careful of burglaries for the next few weeks. He could've just been coming to scope out where you live and how many nice bikes you have at your address. ;)

Great race today.

Struggled keeping the rubber side down during both my practise runs and had a few large offs, twisting my forks up in something silly and putting the dodgy shoulder in a compromising position. Think the whole racing thing got to me and I felt a bit spaced out.
The track literally turned into a dust bowl today, making it the loosest I've ever ridden it, bar thick mud.

That said, was able to lay down a decent time for my first run and I'm 0.7 second off the top10 in my category. Very happy with that, especially since position 8-11 (me) were all on the same second with a pretty stacked field.

On the first run, on the last third of the track I started taking it easy knowing I had a good top, thought I'd turn it down a bit and make sure I can put a time down and not fall. During the second race run I had nothing left in the tank , could'nt pedal and let the pressure get to me and ended up pedalling , whilst still laying on the brakes:p
Ended up going 0.5 ish seconds slower than the first, so miffed in that respect
