Hope are ace anyway, Formula are crap :D

I have much hate for Hope brakes, almost as much as Avid.

I'm a bit of a Shimano convert these days, as I'm constantly astounded by the quality and cost of their drivetrain, so I'm getting some XTRs, or possibly just some Zee.

Along with that, a mate of mine works at the Madison / Shimano warranty dept, so when I break stuff... he just replaces it for me :D ... and have stuck the original purchase on the Staff account...

I've bent way too many Formula levers now and at £30 a pop, I could have had an entire new brakeset :(

I was really after some XTR's, but couldnt afford to splash out on a new set, and couldnt find any second hand so will make do with the M4's for now.

Agree on the levers, they are well nice, but not as nice as the super short Shimano ones.
Yea I do, but slightly loose brakes ...or entirely loose wouldn't have helped in those crashes. For some reason I just have the knack for screwing up brake levers.

Off topic, but a chap on my Pinkbike friends list has just built this fantastic looking TRc I felt like sharing.

From my experience with brakes you can't really go wrong aslong as you choose the big brands.

I used to always run Hope Brakes, Used the Old Hope C2's, E4's, M4's and Mono6 Ti's. Never had any issues really and were a breeze to bleed.

As for Avid I've still go a set a 2006 Avid Codes going strong to this day. Not needed anything doing to them other can bleeding and general maintenance. Been fantastic brakes tbh.

As for Formula my only experience has been The Ones. Jimferno's 2012 The Ones which feel awesome and my 2013 T1's which were awful! My replacement set should be waitng for me at home so hopefully this set will be good.

Just after a bit of clarification with the Stans Flow rims, looking it to it now and from what I understand to make the Flow Exs tubless I would just need the yellow tape and the valve stems, no need for the rim strip?

Straight from the Stans website.

"All Stan's NoTubes ZTR rims require yellow tape for tube or tubeless use. A tubeless valve is necessary for tubeless use. Tape and valve not included with rims. Please see the individual rim description for details."

Tape - looks like electrical tape that covers the holes so air doesn't escape.
Rim strip - that materially looking tape that covers the holes so your tube wont puncture, but doesn't make it air tight.

To go boobless, you need tape, and then you push the valve through the tape through the little scharder hole. For good measure, you add Stans latext goop in there to seal up any punctures, or seal pourous (spelling?) sidewalls.

Mavic boobless rims (UST) don't need tape, just a valve.

Cheers for that guys, thought that was the way but missed anything that clarified it. Wish this damn rain would go away, totally wasted day, could have been riding.
