My new bike, just went and picked it up yesterday :)

Currently running 1x9 setup, struggling on some of the climbs. Have a 32t up front, not sure what on the back. Would changing to 10 at the back make much difference or am i better of going with a smaller ring at the front? If i go with a smaller ring at the front would i need to change my chain guide? Currently got e13 SS+ guide / bash guard.

You will probably need a new guide as most only go as low as 32, an inner bash guard or plate works well to sandwich the chainring.

10 speed with a 36t cassette is very useful for single ring trail bikes.

I use an Extralite 30t chainring but you have to modify your granny tabs to use it, getting a Renthal 32 soon as it's wearing out now, they're good though.

This or Trek 8.3ds ?

Very nice looking bike ..

I've looked literally everywhere, gone up to around £650 on my budget, and the rockrider still beats every other bike at this price range (£500-£700), it is silly the price they are asking, which is why everyone simply states it.

you'd probably have to spend £800 for anyone to suggest something else, I'm ordering mine on payday next week.

also, the wheels are one the wrong way around. OCD kicking in :D

looking at getting a cheapish bike to make the commute to work a lot cheaper.

Would a basic mtb do me fine for 20 miles a day?

I think a MTB is probably not the best commuter for a 20 mile trip, I would head over the the road bike thread and ask the same question.

I currently commute about 4 miles each way on a hardtail and I'm replacing it with a road (ish) bike as it's not an ideal commuter. This means I can put some more off road tyres back on the hardtail and use it for what it was intended for! Does anyone have any budget recomendations for tyres? I have some part worn Maxxis Mobster 26×2.1 tyres in the garage that came with my bike. Are these half decent if not what pair can I get for sub £50 that would be better? I have Schwalbe Hurricane tyres at the mo which were great for commuting however not really suitable for off road use.

Cheers

Dave

:D I'm watching this too, i think one of the guys in my team was filmed at some point. We were "Cockburns Haggis Hunters", keep an eye out :)

Unbelievable that a bunch of 14 year olds would have trounced everyone in the quad event if it wasn't for mechanical failures. They lost just short of an hour yet were beaten by only about 20 mins....

Fair play to them

Cheers I will try changing the cassette as above and see if that makes it a little easier :)
