I went diving for sand crabs :p

Those bars are criminal!

Nobody is trying to convince you to buy into the super wide/flat bar fad from a few years back. Get some 750mm+ bars with a decent amount of rise and you'll never look back, trust me. ;)

I could just about live with the bars but after having used those brakes on a mates bike I'd be very scared at hitting anything that justified the rest of the build.

Stick some 30mm rise Renthal bars on there (780 mm, you can cut them a little later if you feel the need), they have the same 9 / 5 degree sweep as your current bars.
In time my friend.
I'm interested in those renthals, but i'll wait out for a bit, i've spent enough on the bike this month, we'll see next month, or i might try sell off a few of the still servicable parts from my old bike and get them, but as i say i'm in no rush.

Nice looking but costly @ £95.

I've got 5:10 freeriders and they are superb, very sticky on the pedals and fine to walk in. You can get them £30 cheaper than the new ones you linked to.

M596 or M615?

Got Elixir R's on my Boardman, and just becoming less and less impressed with them, couple of problems over the last few months, very tempted to replace them!

Got Formula RX on my HT, and fairly impressed with them, but keep hearing good things about Shimano Deore/SLX, any opinions please? Cheers.

I see Shimano have just released the M615 at the same price as the M596, any difference apart from the ability to use finned pads? Think I might just order the M615 for £90 from Merlin unless anyone needs to talk me out of it? ;)

I was going to go for the same deal from Merlin, decided on the SLX from Rose Bikes in the end as I've gone SLX everything else. Just over £100 with the discount for liking them on Facebook.

anyone tried these yet?

Like the look of them. My Adidas skater shoes are bit tatty now.
not the most important part of a bike shoe but interesting to see how these handle walking about in them.

Not tried them myself but from reading up they are good when on the bike but the smooth sole is awful if you need to walk in them on anything other than dry trails or tarmac. We don't get dry trails too often in the UK so I'd get the normal Freeriders so you aren't sliding about on your arse so much :p

What opinions do you guys have on Fox Forks vs servicing intervals and the stanchion wear that seems fairly common through supposed lack of servicing? I have read that Fox state that at least a wiper/dust seal clean and re-lube is required every 20 hours. Yes not a typo, every 20 hours of use. For some people that's once a month.

If you keep the seals clean and service every so often you can extend the service intervals. I was servicing my old 36s every 6 months. My newer set only need servicing every 12months...ish. Another tip is to put your bike upside down for 20mins before every ride so the forks get lubed. Fork Juice also helps a lot.

~They not come with the brake leavers the wrong way round?

I run standard freerides too (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=93011), very comfy.

Got mine from wiggle, can't remember if they were cheaper or whether I had a voucher.

cheers for the opinions!
Prefer the looks of the new ones but walking in them is ideal as i tend to walk up the climbs! Will get the older ones :)

Lastly whats the sizes like? I'm size 10 in all my trainers, if they're tight fitting i'll get 10 n 1/2
