It'll be worth the wait for sure, the wait just means I can have the parts I want to change ready(shimano 1x10 with narrow wide plus zee brakes). Will probably use the parts from the kona on another bike.

This thread is in dire need of some awesome bikeness so I will oblige :D

with the bank holiday weekend I have had chance to get out on the bike and finally install my new crank arms and chain, but the important part is the Shan is riding and looking awesome!

Sort of falling in love again with my Boardman after replacing the headset, I think it has needed doing for quite a while, given me some well needed confidence and desire to ride it again after a winter mostly on the road. Think I'll push out and do the South Downs in a day in a couple of weekends time.

Noway near as quick as you guys on the descents but its nice being able to test yourself on the downhill bits as well as uphills which you can't do on the road!

Nice IC! Mine will be finished tomorrow!

Is there any special way to setup the clutch mechs? I've setup mine exactly how I have all my others normal mechs and it's shifting lovely. Chain length seems fine too. Do I leave the clutch on for everything aside taking the wheel off?

someone has snuck a front mech onto that shan !:eek::o

That is because it is used properly. :p

Shimano mech I take it? As you say you pretty much just set it up as you would do normally and then just turn it to on and leave it there, unless removing the back wheel.

Yup, Zee mech. Great thanks. Everything is just so quiet with the chainring and mech, it's quite unbelievable at first.

Needed to shed some easter egg flab rolls yesterday. Done follow the dog and monkey trail like a boss at cannock. Recorded with strava and managed to get to around 320th out of 2600. Was sweating buckets so had to ditch the jersey and was just in a cheapo redneck vest. I really miss a drinks bottle holder as im a really sweaty betty in ordinary conditions but it was a sunny 18c yesterday so i was melting.

i was pushing so hard on the climbing that i was so exhausted that when it came to thd downhill i was so weak and making endless time and energy sapping errors. My brake leavers have been set too high since ive had the bike as the reverb remote is on the rear brake lever as part of sram match maker and i had to have the lever highish so i can stand the bike upside down without hitting the lever. I need the reverb leverbar clamp if anyones got one going spare :)

Ended up having a little race at the end with some dude on an extremely sexy yt industries wicked 650b produro. It was so damn nice in the flesh, xo1 gearing, e thirteen wheels, bos front and rear i was kinda jelly but i pushed all the way and won to be fair. Pushing the mega more and more each time i ride.

also does anyone know if i add more low speed compression to my pikes does it effect the high speed compression? I dont know if its in my head or im just getting weak and lazy but i was getting mega arm pump on fast downhill since i made the forks more supple on low speed bumps. There is no external high speed compression setting that i can see.

Low speed compression doesn't affect high speed compression.
That is somewhat an inaccurate statement, as it would very marginally - not enough to do as what you describe.

How much compression did you take off?

If you've taken a lot off, then it means your forks could have been packing down through successive hits and not return to full travel. If you like the general feel of the softer compression, you should try counter this by speeding up your rebound a touch. I'd also advise putting that air reducer spacer in your fork (should have come with the Pike), if it's not in there already.

Either that, or it's the easter egg flab :p

Righto, I'm just going to throw this out here and see what people's thoughts are....

Still love my Specialized Enduro 2011, but I'm starting to find it a bit heavy as I'm jumping better, and wanting to be able to do more and more jumps with it. Yes, I could get fitter... but I could just buy a lighter bike that jumps better :p

So what I'm after is suggestions of something that's a bit newer, (I don't mind looking 2nd hand) with 140mm or 150mm travel at both ends, reasonably strong but that's maybe more around the 31-32lbs weight range. Budget.... maybe around £2k - 2.5k. I'll be running flat pedals and a dropper post, so they also add weight, but they add weight right now so they're areas I can't really save weight from.

650b wheels considered, I'm hoping to have a demo day on something with 650's this year, but 29" is a no-no. Don't think I can handle wagon wheels :D

A lighter bike will not make you jump better.
Besides, your Enduro is probably not much heavier than whatever you;re going to replace it with.

Just be honest with yourself (and us) and say you want a new bike, because you want one... no lame excuses ;)

Dont rule out a 29er until you've tried one. I was the same until i test rode one.

Ive just gone from a 2010 s-works carbon enduro so not too heavy @ 27lb to a stumpy 29er and its a beast. This thing rocks and jumps incredibly well. Im well pleased with it.

Go test ride one or any trail 29er and ill guarantee you'll change your mind.

Any excuse for a another pic :D
