Pretty much sure I'm ordering a Bird Zero AMX (want to try a hardtail and with the aeries coming not much more than £1000 with DB Inline, it'd be dead easy to upgrade in a year or so for not much more than buying it in the first place)

But it has a choice of tyres, I know nothing about Maxxis tyres. Any suggestions on what setup to go for?

I've always been under the impression grippy front, fast(er) rolling on the rear.

Choices are -

Front;

Maxxis High Roller II EXO TR 2.3 Dual Compound
Maxxis Minion DHF 2.3 EXO TR 3C MAXX TERRA
Ardent 2.25 EXO TR Dual Compound Folding.
Ardent 2.4 EXO TR Dual Compound Folding.

Rear;

Maxxis High Roller II EXO TR 2.3
Maxxis Minion DHF 2.3 EXO TR 3C MAXX TERRA
Maxxis Minion DHRII 2.3 EXO TR 3C MAXX TERRA
Ardent 2.25 EXO TR Dual Compound Folding.
Ardent 2.4 EXO TR Dual Compound Folding.

From some reading about the High Roller seems to be held in quite high regard?

Was thinking high roller front and ardent 2.25 on the rear.

I'd have opted for the same combination, but the 2.4 width in stead.

Thanks dude!

I just assummed the 2.25 would roll faster, due to being skinner. I assume the 2.4 would provide some rear suspension or am I going off on some crazy theory here?

Just waiting to hear back if the Fork supplied is the normal X-Fusion that has just been altered to 140mm and can be put back to 160 before ordering. Can't wait :D

I think it's superb that they offer full tubeless setup as well right from the off. Very impressive.

Love the look of the Aeries and would buy a frame only but with a decent set of 26" hopes wheels, I can't be arsed trying to break my existing one down and sell it all off to get a 650b bike.

I'm in exactly same position.

I have hope rims too and every new bike coming out is a 650b

I was thinking of buying new rims and getting my hubs laced into them but would be same price as new set of wheels.

I might buy a new bike fully built and just sell mine off.

That's crossed my mind as well!:D

Good idea. The High Roller 2 is good but a little draggy. No need for a 2.4 rear. It's overkill.

The wife switched out the High Roller 2 on the back of the Solo for a Mountain King Protection but kept the 2.35 HR2 up front. Much better set up.

Yeah brilliant! I just need to investiagte on how to fix tubeless on the trail. I assume its as easy as adding a tube.

Sell it off and get a 650B :)

My plan is to keep the pitch and this till I get bored, as ultimately there both going to be beyond the skillset I have.

Ha, now to decide between the two! I assume the Ardent is faster rolling than a HR2?

anyone tried a transition covert? seen a cheap one somewhere and am tempted

bascially want to upgrade frame and forks
currently have SC nickel (upped to 140mm) and a fox 32 140 but its a bit flexy and fancy something a bit more trail parky (150/160mm and 142x12 bolt through), but still want to be able to ride a normal xc route if needed (e.g swinley or something)

not changing from 26" though - dont want bigger wheels
dont want to spend much either !

pikes can be had for £500 so about £1000 for frame?
im 6"2' as well so needs to be big (xl or l)

anyone got suggestions? dont mind second hand if in good nick

seems to be loads of great bargain frames for 27.5 or 29 but nothing for 26!!! outrage!

A fast rolling, grippy rear tyre - it's got to be a Schwalbe Rock Razor Evo !!

I've run with an Ardent 2.4 on the front for a couple of years, think they weigh about 860g and I've not had a single problem running them at approx 22psi..

I wish i bought the covert then i wouldnt be tempted to get a new bike now (who am i kidding)

I went for the bandit (130mm rear, 150mm front) instead of the 160mm covert. I regret that now. Only tried a covert on some fire roads so not in vein but my bandit is awesome.

I paid £1400 for my frame new with fox kashima shock.

Just got back from Dubai and my Hoy Lee stuff is here.. The shorts are amazing quality and the top looks really tidy as well.. Gonna order some pants from there I thinks! :D

I was looking at the Spectral as well as the Aeris, but What Mountain Bike magazines's review of the 2014 Spectral said that the frame was small and you may want to think about sizing up.

It makes me nervous to order a bike from Germany if I can't be sure that I'm ordering the correct size.

Re sizing on the canyon spectral, i got the 2014 version, Medium frame is spot on for me i am 5'9 for reference.
