*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

I had to go back and re-read your message, i'd thought you'd progressed past the 10kg, yet were struggling to even hold the 15!

The issue i find with fixed dumbells is that you kind of need all the middle sizes, as jumping from 10kg to 15kg is a fairly big progression. Obviously too late now, but the Mirafit adjustable ones are great and can go up in tiny sizes.

Yeah, I could send them back but I can't be arsed now. :D

After getting one out of the box and being able to grip it properly, it's not as mega heavy as it was carrying it up the stairs. I should be able to get squatting with it. Even if it's just one or two reps, there's room to build. I won't be doing overhead triceps extensions with it anytime soon though. :D

Got a nice little set now, 3, 5, 7.5, 10, 15 so I think that should keep me busy for a good while.

Ah yeah, if using it for squats/presses you should be ok. I was more thinking of curls where jumping from 10 to 15 would be a big jump!

Also i clocked in under 95kg for the first time in months this morning. Luckily i imagine loads of DIY over the last week, combined with no booze (ignoring 4 cans of Heineken at the weekend which i caved to after a 10 hour day decorating!)

I have to say, Peloton app has been great at introducing me to the world of strength training. Really getting in to it now, have ordered some 10kg and 15kg dumbbells (flippin' expensive aren't they?!) to continue the journey. Been at it six weeks so it's turning into a habit now, running one day and weights the next x3 with one rest day.

Shame the bloody diet is still ruinous. Just scoffed half a tray of bakewell tart from Asda.
I'm impressed you ate just half a tray of bakewell tart!

I'd have wanted to demolish the whole thing! Lol!

With my next cycling trip in 10 days, I'm possibly leaving it a bit late but this week I'm trying to cut back again. I've got into a habit of having a protein bar around 10ish and 3ish every day, which means I'm always ending up on at least 2,700 cals each day, but this week I've held firm and not snacked, in fact lunch and breakfast today was only about 800 cals, which is very low for me. (With half an hour run at lunch too)

I've been really consistent at around 15st 7 for a few months now, but I'm trying to drop a lb or two this week, then add some cals back in a 3 or 4 days before the trip so I can go chasing some PR's up the mountains. I went last Sept to the same place and I weighed 15st 10 then, so looking for a slight weight advantage this time

Was hoping to try and break the 1 million steps this month, but don't think I'll make it as I've been on depts. quite a few times in the last couple of weeks and when you're in depts you tend to not do as many steps. I usually do 30-40k but on depts that's down to 20-30k. Still, I have 15 days left (8 of which are work days) to see what I can do.

Do you drink socially, or just at home?
Theres always the option of changing drinks if its a social thing, the number of calories in some things is shocking..
Both really, that' something I'm doing from now on. Only drink if I'm going out/special occasion. No more 2/3 pints on a Friday
6-7 drinks is anywhere from 1k-2k+ calories so 2-4 days worth of deficit alone.
I know but used to be able to get away with that amount of drinks and still lose weight. Perils of turning 30 I suppose. :p

Haha, 30, you wait until you hit the back end of 40's...

Gin's meant to be low calorie so might have to find something that doesn't take like crap to put in it, certainly lower calories that Cold River, Madri and so on..

Theres also the energy drink alternatives, I should probably look at those as I'll do a can of Relentless most days..

As much as we love to blame age its very much a minor factor in the grand scheme of things. Are you at a lower weight then when you used to be able to lose weight while still drinking? If so you will be burning less calories by default just from having to move less weight around all the time! not to mention potential reduced NEAT etc from lower calorie intake. Metabolic adjustment is a thing.

White wine/ Prosecco is about the most calorie efficient drink by volume. Spirits are quite calorific as the alcohol itself has calories. Depends on whether you want to get absolutely smashed I guess. Beer is terrible for calories.

Everything in moderation. If you want to drink alcohol, you can. Just log the calories and take them into account. They’re empty calories so you’re not going to make as much progress if you have a glass of wine with every meal compared to a glass of water.

Low alcohol beer is significantly less calorific if you wanted an alternative.
