*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

My neighbour gave all their unopened treats to me. Oh no.
Not a good start to the new year. I told people I was trying to sort myself out and got more boxes of biscuits and chocolate this year than ever before.
I'm very happy it's all gone. Going to do 'Dry January' for me this year too, first time ever.

Im in the middle. Spent the last few days shovelling all the biscuits available down my throat to allow for a “clean” start tomorrow.

Todays weigh in was 103.5kg. I’m optimistically hoping that a few kgs fall off quickly once a normal diet resumes.

January is usually a horrific work month for me so just need to make sure I find time for exercise.
 
Not sure what my weight is at the moment but it's not going to be less than 30st, for context I'm 6ft 8 and disabled thanks to my leg being completely ******!

I struggle with weight loss, especially as its all through diet alone. Basically, the more I try to be physically active, the more my becomes painful and swollen and the more I risk ending up in hospital again with a dvt. It's infuriating!

But, I have had success. At my heaviest I'd hit 38st (no need to comment I was disgusted with myself) and at my lowest since my Injury I got down to 26st 11. So still a long way off but evidence I can do it when determined.

My goal is to get to my weight to 15st. I fell off the wagon hard before after I was told even if I hit my target weight they wouldn't do the surgery I'd been told I could have previously because of a 75% chance I'd lose my leg for only a 5% chance of it fixing the problem. I got very depressed knowing this disability is sodding permanent.

But, I'm determined to get healthier again for my missus and for my daughters. How I do it though is a little controversial. I do carnivore. Eating mostly fatty red meat until I'm full and nothing else. I'll add stuff like chicken wings, pork belly, bacon, eggs etc but fatty red meat is the lions share.

People think I'm nuts but I honestly feel better than I did before my injury and subsequent disability while doing it. So, basically once I can get my missus to head to the butchers for me on Tuesday I'm back on the meat wagon and hoping you lot can help keep me on track.

That sounds a fantastic diet! I love meat!

If it works for you and you feel better for it though then that's all that matters.

Seems like you have some good inspiration to work with so hopefully you'll get to a place where you feel happier.

Clearly you're in quite a different position to most of us, so I am literally asking a question, rather than commenting on your approach. Do you know how many calories this is? Are you saying this is your approach to losing weight?

I ask, because I've commented on here, if I eat until I feel like I'm full/don't need to eat more, I'm definitely going to put weight on.

Yes, this is my approach to losing weight as it really works for me. I started it after it was recommended to me when my health really started to decline starting with type 2 diabetes which in 3 months of doing it I'd put into remission along with suspected Crohns. The weight loss helped a lot as well, naturally.

Honestly mate, doing it I've never once thought about how many calories I was getting in a meal. But, I can guess it was a lot when I was packing away a 1kg slab of pork belly or a 1lb rib eye cooked in butter with 4-6 eggs and probably some streaky bacon on the side. If I wasn't losing weight it was either I wasn't eating enough or I was eating dairy (I bloody love cheese) what I found though is while I was eating massive meals and feeling stuffed after the first few weeks I was only really eating once a day as I just wasn't hungry outside of that. So I guess I was getting benefits of fasting aswell? Without ever being hungry.

The way I look at it, it always comes down to energy in, energy out. There are various different ways of controlling this, eg fasting for periods of time, or for certain days, but it generally comes down to energy in, energy out. I don't think there's a magic way around that. I get that protein will fill people up, which helps them eat less cals (= energy in against energy out). If one big meal helps you not eat again, I guess that's one way! Whatever helps you beat that energy in, energy out formula.
 
Tbh my most successful diet was when I went keto, which is a step below full on carnivore. I think it's basically feeling very full with all the fat and protein being eaten, and the total lack of junk food.
I found it too restrictive in the end, and really wasn't happy eating that amount of meat personally, but if it works for someone then it works.

Honestly I don't really know how it works for me and others but it does. There's the obvious stuff ofcourse, like not eating junk that's going to have benefits. But, there's a particular emphasis on high fat being the key within the carnivore community. Everyone is different but it's what works for the majority.

Carnivores who like to track macros and ratios etc seem to aim for a 50/50 approach to fat and protein. Personally I just tend to listen to my body. Stuff like going to the toilet, too little fat and I'd get a bit constipated. Too much and you get the idea. I also hear people talk about stuff like not all calories are created equal or that the calories in calories out idea is nonsense when on carnivore.

I'd be very interested in any scientific reasoning of this. As far as I can see, and logically, it's the only thing that really counts. I can pretty much know for sure, if I start eating 3,500 cals of meat every day, I'll put weight on pretty quickly.

I can recommend a lot of YouTube content and creators most of which are doctors who try to explain the science behind it all that seems to ring true with my personal experience but for every video or link I find there's no doubt hundreds contradicting it.

What I can say seems to be the case is that most people do carnivore to fix health problems like I did with my type 2 diabetes etc and the vast majority of people lose lots of weight. Though more often than not like me they have a lot of excess weight to lose. Those who gain weight, at least at first, tend to be malnourished in some way. Given a long enough time scale though it seems as though the body finds its own ideal weight with it.
 
From a very quick look over a few websites, it's not trying to contradict 'in vs out', it's around it suppressing your hunger. So, another way to mean you'll eat fewer calories... because of 'in vs out' ;) It sounds like there are other health benefits for you, so sounds like a win/win in your case.
 
However it works, the results speak for themselves. I've previously lost over 11st and felt great. I'm still about 8st lower than my heaviest and am looking forward to feeling better in myself. Who wants to try it with me?
 
222lbs as of this morning, which is around 7lbs up since Christmas eating started in December.

Not at all sad about that, eating still hasn't really cleaned up so plenty of water weight to drop.

Aim is to hit 200lbs at some point this year. Which should be more than achievable as long as I don't crunch my knee again like the old man I am :o

I am currently sitting at 115kg this morning (down from 115.2kg, not much but something). am planning on calorie counter from next Monday but my sleep seems to get messed up when ever I do. Started resistance training with cardio 3x a week and 2 days of walking so hopefully it will help me get down to my first goal of below 100kg
